Thread Starter
Just bought a new graphics card geforce 8600gt super clocked, that should be an improvement on the geforce 7500LE, next i want to upgrade my ram but am not sure on how to match it to my system, in cpuz it says that my memory is pc2-4300, does that mean i wouldnt be able to use a 2gb chip set that was pc2-5300? HELP!

It'll work, but the faster RAM will be running at the lower RAM's speed.

That mobo can only handle up to DDR2 667 RAM

I would suggest a new mobo before you invest in some decent RAM

i was going to get a new mobo next as the msi-7301 has no overclocking capabilities to my knowledge. As for the ram i was going to get rid of the pc2-4300 as its two chips of 512mb and get to two 1 gb ddr2 667mhz pc2-5300

If you are getting a new motherboard then do not waste your money on pc 5300

It is a waste of money.

Ballistix

This is the best value RAM you will ever come across. It uses D9 micron IC's and can reach speeds of DDR2 1000+

And you can grab boards for around the same price (Gigabyte DS3)

So look into that RAM It is awesomley cheap

CHEERS makes sense now i think bout it would be stupid to get new ram when a new board is going to have a higher potential for ram where speed is concerned. any suggestions on a mobo for under a hundred quid??

Ahhhh poo, sorry dude. Didn't realise you was in the UK.

Let me cook something up for you.

Asus P5N-E SLI 650i £70

Asus P5B P965 £65

Sorry but i couldn't find the Deluxe version.

Gigabyte DS3 P965 £50

And for RAM

Crucial Ballistix £93

G Skill HZ £88

The G Skill seem to be cheaper in the UK and so you should definately get them.

Both memory use D9 IC's and both have proven to hit 1000+ but the HZ's usually go a little bit further.

My HZ PC8000 should be here this week. And you can happily have my 6400 HZ's for £50 (same as that link) if you want. Drop me a PM if you are interested.

I just bought the GIGABYTE S-Series GA-G33M-DS2R, from www.newegg.com, it supports multi-core processors and is very OC'able. I'm going with the Crucial Ballistics DDR2 PC800 RAM, listen to Iced Earth, he knows his stuff The DDR2 RAM, new HSF is the only thing really stopping me from doing the install and OC'ing today next week I'll be posting the results!

No probs, try and stretch your money to the P5B though.

The DS3 FSB may cap out before you reach your max OC (not sure what multi your 4300 runs on) and the P5B can sustain a slightly higher FSB than a DS3 most times.

I'm out now anyways dude

Will check the thread tomorrow and see what decisions you have made. Good luck.

Iced.
