PS3 on my Monitor?

Thread Starter
Well I just bought a PS3 and I only have a Standard Def TV, and I want to run my PS3 on 1 of my Monitors(Non-HDCP). Is it possible? I was also recommended the HDMI to DVI cable. But I also heard at the same time you can NOT play Blu-Ray movies on a NON-HDCP monitor on a HDMI to DVI cable. Also if I do get a HDMI to DVI cable, how will I get sound? I will +REP x 2 to anyone that can solve the problem.

NOTE: This is what I found so far.

You can pick one of those cables up at walmart. There should still be the other wires for your sound from the PS3 just take those and connect it to a standard earphone jack and plug it into ur mic in or line in spot for sound through your pc. My monitor is HDCP so i dont know about the blu ray thing....i guess if thats all you got then trying wont hurt.

You will need a DVI to HDMI cable in order to connect it to your monitor. Audio will be supplied via the standard red/white audio cable. *Note: without HDCP you cannot watch HD contect (Bluray), the PS3 will only run standard definition and essentially defeat the purpose of using a LCD.

Ok then so... So I'll need this Cable for Video. And the Red and White Cable will go into the Line-In Port into my PC? So This cable for Audio? Also, can I still watch Blu-Ray movies on my LCD through these cables but at least on Stand Def, correct?

I tried it all.... spent a few bucks on eBay, got a HDMI to DVI cable. Then I used the standards PS3 component cable to hook up to my stereo speakers. Tried every possible configuration. Even called ViewSonic - the maker of my LCD monitor, and they told me right off the bat exactly what I was experiencing:

When you hook the PS3 through a digital connection to a Non-HDCP monitor, you will see only a black screen. You won't be able to play at lower resolution. You won't be able to play games or movies. All Blu-Ray discs have HDCP protection built in (including PS3 games).

If anyone has found a way to circumvent this, other than buying a DVI to Analog converter (which I've been told puts out crappy picture), I'd love to hear it.
