Yay..... more sockets.... seems to be a lot of news about Fusion leaking out in the past couple of days. I'm hoping for an actual review to leak out.....
AMD IS READY to reveal a whole heap of information to industry experts at AMD's semi-annual analyst day gathering in a place called Sunnyvale.
One of the items on the menu will be AMD's "Fusion" and details about Torrenza, both big projects in 2008.
However, the situation about which sockets will be in play for Torrenza/Fusion is relatively complex.
AMD is talking about integrating the Fusion processor in UMPC computers such as Samsung's Q1 Ultra, and for that the current socket Mister S1 just does not fit.
Enter the worlds of sockets FM1, FM2 and FM3. These new sockets will have interesting operational compatibility with its current sockets.
Even though customers are crying foul when it comes to the allegedly "Customer Centric" company, it seems nothing can stop DAAMIT from the constant introduction of new processor sockets. There is a certain unflattering term "midget brained engineers" floating around those very customers AMD should be taking care of.
In other Fusion-related news, it will be interesting to see support for both Displayport, HDMI, DVI and TV-out coming from the processor itself.
Fusion also has one purpose nobody has yet talked about but me. But I will tantalise you by not telling you about that right now, because I am in the gymn. Somewhere on the planet. µ
