My current rig

First off I want to say that Alienware is a piece of crap.
I bought a m9700 laptop from them and it was a waste of money. The $1000 dollar amd cpu basically died 1 month after using the laptop and it took them a month to repair it and send it back to me. It also has 2 Go7900GS video cards in it. I don't think two video cards in the laptop do much for performance because I hardly see an fps drop when I only have one card active. Basically I wasted a lot of money on that laptop and I will never make a mistake like that again. Currently my laptop is being repaired by alienware b/c my retarded roommate shot the 500 dollar screen with an airsoft gun and the damage was not covered by the warranty...

So the rig I've been using the passed week or so is as follows:

Processor: Intel Pentium4 3.2 ghz
Motherboard: Asus P4P800E-Deluxe
Video Card: evga Nvidia 6800gt
Hard Drive: Western Digital Raptor
Ram: 1gb of something (maybe corsair? is there a way I can find out?)
Power Supply: Antec 500w I think

I got this computer a few months before SLI was released (2004 maybe?).
Since the time I got it I had to replace the power supply, hard drive, and motherboard. About a year and 1/2 ago the whole computer was overheating every day and I think the video card was damaged. In games I see small black squares or small discolored squares (artifacts?) which probably are a result of overheating damage.

Just today I opened the case up and sprayed about a years worth of dust out of the case and nearly clogged my lungs.

With the parts I have here, what should I do to get the best out of this computer? What parts should I buy if I need to buy anything?

Also a sort of offtopic question.. say in the far future I buy one of those 8800gtx's or whatever for a different computer.. is a second card in SLI worth the benefits?

Your input will be greatly appreciated!

SLI is really not worth the money in my opinion. A new video card would definately help, and another gig of ram. To find out the model of the ram, open the case and look at it. It will say on a sticker or on one of the chips.

Get CPU-Z and that will tell you what memory brand you have under the 'SPD' tab.

maybe buy another gig or 512 stick of ram, and if possible buy some new cooling equipment. and if the bios supports ocing then up the fsb a little. As for the 8800gtx sli, instead of sli just get the ultra its supposed to be extreamly beastly it pwns in every game. especially if ur waiting for crysis
