New to OCing: 7600gt

Hey guys, I'm brand new to OCing. Ordered an EVGA 7600gt PCI-e that should be coming in tomorrow, and I thought it would be fun to do some basic overclocking on it. My case does not have "great" airflow, just an 80mm exhaust fan in the back along with PSU fans. I don't plan to get an aftermarket cooler, parents pay for computer costs and don't see a need to get it .

How would I record accurate idle/load temps? Run 3dmark a couple of times to get load? I guess i'll just leave my computer alone for an hour or two to get idle temps.

What would be reasonable core/memory clocks to achieve with stock cooling?

Thanks in advance!

I achieved a core of 610 and memory of 800 (1600 effective) on stock cooling. But I had better case airflow than you.

Edit: also with ram sinks I cant get any higher of a oc on the mem. Ill need to voltmod.

On stock cooling those would be reasonable speeds. Be sure to download and run ATITool (yes, it works with nVidia) and use it's Artifact Scanning to make sure your clocks are stable.

I heard that RivaTuner was a good utility for overclocking. Does it have Artifact scanning? I'm ok with using ATItool, it's just that I'm trying to get an all-in-one program instead of jumping around.

Well if you want a all in one get ati tool for sure. As riva has no such scanning, but I use that for my ocs and then ati tool for artifacts.

in my experience ATItool is the most user friendly and easy to use
im using .26 version.
