Just how many fans do I need?

I'm about to build a new PC consisting of a Q6600, Gigabyte P35C DS3R, 2 GB RAM and a Nvidia 8800 GTX. I was wondering how many fans I need to purchase in order to be able to do some OCing?

If you buy a new case does it come with any fans built in? I'm asking this as I sometimes see fans on the top of the case or at the end of itand I'm not sure if it has been put there afterwards?

Hope you can help me answer my questions.

Cheers.
Anders

A new case comes with fans in it. How many fans depends on what case you are buying though.

yes a lot of cases already come with fans. If you're into some quiet, but good cooling I would go for a case with 2 120mm holes: 1 intake and 1 exhaust. If you really dont care about noise you could go with a case that has a lot of fan holes precut (smaller fans), just make sure you have the same amount of intake and exhaust.

The first fan you need to buy should be in the form of a CPU heatsinkfan... That'll give you the most flexibility in overclocking.

As far as case fans go, you really only need a front and rear fan (most cases come with a rear fan at least) to get airflow going. A side fan is nice in some cases, but it disturbs the pressure balance. In the end, the more case fans, the cooler, but you really only need those front and rear fans (don't forget the CPU heatsinkfan) to keep your overclock cool.

cheers guys ... just the answers I was looking for

I'll get the CPU heatsinkfan and a case that has holes ready for two 120mm fans.
