Antec P180/P182 Cable Mod Pictorial - Page 10

Here's what I did with mine.

The steel on this case was a pain to cut. I made this cut outs to help add wires behind. Was worth it while it lasted.

What's that saying measure twice cut once.

Got the HAF 932 so this one needs to go.

I used Duplicolor Sandable Primer. I heard the Self Etching Primer also works pretty well. Try one of these:

Dupli-color is actually auto paint/primer. The ones in the link are for autos as well. Hope it helps

Either of those should work fine . Sorry I just did a quick search earlier and didnt realize the pricing on those other ones. I just saw that the shipping was 77 something . thats like 200 US isnt it? Any automotive paint and primer should work just fine though.

edit: check this one out: Self etching primer

heya once again spacegoast

I finally got my P182, looked it over, and have a few questions (again), I might be repeating a few, but thats only to make sure im on the right track.

Ok, of course before painting the case...you need to take the damn thing apart. I looked around and see that the only parts i wont be able to get out are the sliding trays between the 2 chambers (i think), the rubber feet underneath, the pads that press against the side panel and the top (the top seems to be glued on, but i read on another forum somewhere that they DID remove it B4 painting....but how do u get it back then...forgot where i read it and IF u rip the top off and the feet....what glue do u use to put it back?)
Is there a way that i can remove these parts or should i just tape them up??

I have decided to just sandblast the whole thing clean, my cousin was kind enough to help me out and let me use his sandblaster.

ok...to the painting, I read somewhere that acid etching primer is a good way to go. and you suggest bumper/automotive spray. Check.

ok....spray on first coat of primer....wait HOW LONG?
spray next coat of primer....wait HOW LONG??
(do that 3 times....or mabey a 4th to be safe )

Then spray on paint... first layer and wait....HOW LONG??
(do this also 3/4 times)

Then wait how long before putting it all back together?

any and all help is appreciated
thanx spacegoast

Actually you can remove the plastice sections the HDD trays slide in to. therte are 2 or 3 screws in each piece. You need a small screw driver to remove them. You can see mine are removed in some of my pics. As for removing the feet, I wouldnt do it, but I bet you could stick them back on with some JB WELD. This stuff holds just about anything and is much stronger than Super Glue.

Acid etching primer will work just fine too. i just used automotive paint because I have a Napa autoparts near me and stopped by their after work . I would wait 45-60 minutes between primer coats to make sure it fully dries. Some say 20-30 minutes but I would make sure it is completely dry first. Im prett sure my paint dried a little quicker than the primer but I wouldnt chance it. 30-45 between paint coats should suffice.

When putting it back together I was too anxious and made the mistake of not lerttign it dry completely. So I have some scratches and places where the paint just rubbed right off from my PSU cables . I would wait AT LEAST half a day, maybe even a full day before putting it back together.

wow...thanks for the FAST reply Spacegoast

i wasnt talking about those parts (that the HDD trays slide into).... im talking about the sliding panels on the bottom part of the top chamber, the one that separates the 2 chambers, where u can slide cables through.

found the forum post where the guy removed the top of the case, he just used heat and slowly pulled it off....waiting on a reply to see if he got it back on...LOL

I also remember a post somewhere where a guy cut out a section of the door so that he could get to the power buttons without opening the door....u seen this anywhere?? tryna find it again

anyway....thanks so far, your tips are appreciated
