What is Lapping? can some1 explain please? i know its some kind of a mat like thing which is solid when bought but when heated it goes soft to reansfer heat, but does this mean u dont need thermal paste? and how easy is it to remove mat like it is with the paste?

Lapping is removing the machining marks are the heatsink and/or removing the aluminum surface from the internal heatsink of the processor.

I am pretty sure that there is a faq or 2 on this site for lapping. But basically it consists of using a flat surface and increasing levels of sandpapers (200, 400, 600, 1000, 1500, 2000, etc) to "polish" the surface, thereby creating a flatter surface to enable the transfer of heat.
