Should I buy a Q6600?

Thread Starter
Tigerdirect is selling a Q6600 for $289.99 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...=CP2-DUO-Q6600

I was curious should I buy it? I currently run an E6600 OCed to 3.2Ghz. Will I notice a huge difference? I run a lot of multithreaded software. Photoshop, I think Flash is multithreaded, WoW. Also is that price good?

If I do buy it what kind of cooling solutions should I be looking at? I currently have one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118003 with Artic Silver 5 would that be more than enough?

Thanks for any responses.

I think my room gets around 28-30c. The downside is my room is very open so an AC wouldn't work.

You fold as well, so if you can afford the Q6600, folding would be great! WU 2610 and more others depends on higher cache to fold faster. The Q6600 has 2x4MB over your currently 4MB on the E6600. So... the WU that depends on cache that you use to fold on the 4MB, you can cut that time in half or so.

Skullzflare got his quad yesterday. WU 2610 went from 16 minutes per % to 8. @_@

Running two SMP, :O

Where my system sits in is a very small claustrophobic room. Maybe an AC would work for me

I am thinking about upgrading my rig but I'm torn whether I should do it now or wait for what is coming out next. I hope it would be around the time Crysis is coming out.

I say go for it. Especially if you do multi-threaded work, the performance increase will be amazing.

But, wait for the G0 stepping to become more available, as it runs cooler and is supposed to overclock higher. Here's some info on it:
