AMD shows off 3GHz K10 with 3 GPUs!!! - Page 14

Finally...

And good grief...they didn't tell any details. That's why I couldn't find any. There is no real way to know if this CPU was even running at 3.0 on all four cores...but there is no way AMD would fake that...no way in hell. If they did and were found out they'd be ruined.

Untill we see some hard evidence I am going to have just sit back and hope

...I think this display is just stupid. Its like GM coming out with a new model of car and calling a press conference and saying it has tons of horse power and great fuel milage but not say any numbers and never have the car leave the show room floor.

But then..I think AMD has done stuff liek this in the past. "Here is a out new CPU!" "Isn't it shiney?" "OH? I am sorry we can't actualyl tell you any thing about it..."

you didn't notice that I had posted a link to the dailytech news?? There weren't benchmarks for this system, but they did run one. This was linked earlier in the thread. http://blog.pcmag.com/blogs/miller/a...7/26/2039.aspx

Quote:
AMD showed a comparison between its 2.0GHz quad-core Barcelona chip and an existing intel Xeon 5345 “Clovertown†chip running at 2.33 GHz. Technically the AMD chip is a 95watt chip, while the Intel chip is an 80 watt chip, but they were really are both in the same energy framework, since the two firms measure energy use differently. In AMD’s demo running the SPEC floating point benchmark, the Barcelona chip was scoring 69.5, while the Intel chip was at 54. So AMD claims a 25 percent performance advantage; and when looking at actual power draw; 30 percent better at performance per watt.
thats a barcelona benchmark. I'm sure we'll see some Phenom benches closer to release.

You can't deny that since... well thats what they did before AMD came along and gave them shell shock for all those years.

I myself can't name any other manufacturers of x86 CPUs except Cyrix... and I think they're out of the running now. Maybe VIA, but they aren't really focusing on the market that Intel and AMD are. It goes without saying that the primary goal of a company is to maximize profits... it's not like Intel is making their processors to provide a public service.

Which means, you guys (not me, I'd never spend a penny on an amd product ) are going to be paying a pretty penny for new technology, whereas Intel's was.......basically affordable to everyone.
Then again, AMD is about high prices if it wasn't for Intel's C2D, the X2s will still be $300 for the low-end.
This is well known, since 2005 and prior:
http://www.internetnews.com/bus-news...le.php/3531781
Quad-Core for le$$ than $300....in their dreams.
AMD's barcelona is meant to compete with Intel chips exceeding 1000 dollars while still staying within 3 digits. Your quad core pricing point - busted.

As for phenom AMD will most likely keep them cheap enough after the initial 1 week or so release pricing down low enough so there is absolutely no intelligence in buying an Intel chip. They do still need to regain support for all those delays.
