AMD shows off 3GHz K10 with 3 GPUs!!! - Page 10

I know reading this stuff off of INQ is really hard to believe (It was for me too)
but i came across this

http://blog.pcmag.com/blogs/miller/a...7/26/2039.aspx

I know its a blog but coming from PC MAG i think it should be a more reputable source and if it is real then im AMD all the way =D

Well what was shown in this article was a Phenom (although they called it a Barcelona as well, I guess that is the INQ for you...)

Barcelona has not yet seen anything near 3.0Ghz.

And we have no confirmation of this article being accurate. Does the chip work? Or does it just boot into Windows?

But how different are the Phenom and Barcelona chips? The only major differences I know of are pin count and power management. The fact that the architecture can hit 3.0ghz is at least hopeful, considering previous info.

edit: and according to those links, it was doing more than just booting to windows.

wow...some actual numbers! and they even talk about the difference in TDP ratings, at least they mention it.

This is what impresses me the most...

Quote:
AMD showed a comparison between its 2.0GHz quad-core Barcelona chip and an existing intel Xeon 5345 “Clovertown” chip running at 2.33 GHz. Technically the AMD chip is a 95watt chip, while the Intel chip is an 80 watt chip, but they were really are both in the same energy framework, since the two firms measure energy use differently. In AMD’s demo running the SPEC floating point benchmark, the Barcelona chip was scoring 69.5, while the Intel chip was at 54. So AMD claims a 25 percent performance advantage; and when looking at actual power draw; 30 percent better at performance per watt.
A 2.0GHz K10 is superior in floating point benchmarks to a new 2.33GHz Core 2-based Xeon. Cool stuff.

These benchmarks were proved wrong a while ago. AMD rigged the benchmark and got slapped on the wrist.
