Killed My Dad's PC

Thread Starter
So lately my dad has REALLY been getting into BF2. Tired of all the lagging with his 6200LE, he went out and bought a 7600GS for me today to put into his PC.

I turned the PC off, took out the old card, put the new one in, and nothing. No signal to the monitor. Everything else on the PC appears to be working okay, but no monitor.

"The card must be defective."

So I put the old card back in, just to be sure, and it does the same thing.

"***?"

So I tried a different monitor. It did the same thing.

I know someone is going to ask this, and yes, I did clear the CMOS. Multiple times.

Basically, the only thing I can think of right now is that the motherboard dumped itself or something. It's on it's last legs anyway.

Discuss.

I had the same problem when I was fitting my new case, turns out I forgot to connect my CD drive and HDD to the molex connecters. But as you've only fitted a new card, I have no clue. Do the fans on the card spin and are there any led's on the mobo?

Did you bend a pin on the VGA cable or damage/unplug anything else while swapping the cards?

He should have at least gotten a 7600GT by the way

does the card need aux power? if it does, what is it's required psu for power? does your computer provided that constant power? maybe you fudged the board with not enough power

The card does not need an Aux. connector, and the PSU is more than enough. 460W and 30A on 12V+. As far as I know, I touched nothing but the cards. All the fans in the system spin. The fan on the old video card spins, as does the new one.

And I couldn't have killed the old one with static electricity, because I touched the new one first; the static electricity would have killed it and my old one still would have been okay. It wouldn't be doing the same thing as the new one because it was working 5 seconds prior to that.

Nah. No static here. Not a carpeted floor in my house and I know of the dangers.

Was the system a pre-built box from Dell or Emachines or something? If it is, then maybe they have some setting in the bios that locks the vga/pci-e slot by default.
