Trouble overclocking 3.4 GHz Pentium D

Thread Starter
Hello,

Please excuse my inexperience. I have a slight problem when I try to Overclock my 3.4 GHz Pentium D (950 i believe).

My system setup:

ECS RC410L-800/M
3.4GHz (Pentium D) 12x multiplier
1 GB DDR2 Ram
On Board POS ATI Video Card
XP Professional

I'm using this computer to experiment on, next step is to go to my E6600 PC.

When I go into BIOS and up my CPU FSB, all of my speeds go down according to CPUZ...For example: I turned off the default setting which was at 200MHz and went up a minute 3 MHz. After booting I saw that my Core Speed was at 2027 MHz, my Bus Speed was at 168.9 MHz, and my rated FSB went down to 675.6. ***! My Bus speed on default is 200 MHz, and my rated bus speed is 800 MHz. I'm doing something wrong.

Also I can't find the voltage modulator.

Please help an idiot.

All I would really need is the ability to access the Voltage modulator and Ram frequency modulator, I don't know how to get them out of that "grey" mode.

Turn off the cpu "throtling" or "power saving"

That seems to be your problem

I disabled the "Power Management" function but I'm still unable to alter the voltage and ram speeds.

Can you fill in your specs? that would help.

Is your ram set to auto (by SPD) or manual? Sometimes dividers appear if everything is done automatically. (rather, a divider you dont want)

I'm not sure what my ram is set to? Is my BIOS just a POS and can't alter the voltage?

HOLY ****....I was looking at CPUz and my core speed is jumping from 2470 mhz to 3499 mhz back and forth (12x multiplier). I was going to hypothesize that when I took my CPU FSB Speed off of default it set it to a lower number than default...being an explanation why when I increase the speed it is still running slower than default on CPUz. But with a peak of 4.1 GHz and a trough of 2.9 GHz i dunno what is going on.

Now i really need to know how to access the voltage function to stablize this thing.

is it bad if CPUz and CLockGen are giving me different cpu speed figures?

If I were you, I'd stop using the ECS and that XPress200 chipset for overclocking the Pentium D 3.40ghz.

What you need, it's a board that capable of overclocking, unfortuantely that ECS and chipset are not. Get an ASUS P5K series boar or GIGABYTE P35s and see that 3.40ghz do at the very least 4.0ghz.

I say 4.0ghz because I will guess you're still using the stock cooler and it could be good or not that good at all.

My Pentium D 945 and Tuniq Tower 120 along with a P5WD2-Premium:
