8800GTS or 8800GTX? - Page 3

I do not think they would double but honestly, i don't know, its not a benchmark thats come by too much, probably because the driver support for SLI in Vista has been a little lacking, i'm not even sure if SLI works in DX10 (I have no clue) but here is a little test gamespot recently did. You can scroll through here to see how the sli setups do against the single ones and there is also a dollar/performance chart. Don;t know how much I trust gamespot to do these but I'm sure its somewhat right.

http://www.gamespot.com/features/6173135/p-4.html

You will obviously get a performace bump with the SLI setup, but I don;t really think its worth it for the price, you mostly need that for your 30-inch screens and from what I recall you have a 22. If you really want killer performance, you can always wait for the next generation, but if you;re like me, you can;t stand playing the waiting game. I;d say go the GTX, overclock it, and you won;t be disapointed.

Thanks for all your input. I'm going with the GTX, because of the 128 stream processors, the fact it can overclock to the Ultra, and for the extra FPS on the high end resolutions in future games.

SLi and CrossFire are not magic bullets. some games aren't compatible with SLi and CF and offer no performance increase. i have DiRT and actually get worse frames with CF enabled on my machine (new setup, still trying to learn all the quirks).

i'm sure you'll be pleased with your new GTX. your sig says you want an X38 motherboard - to my knowledge the SLi thing never panned out with that chipset. make sure you get a 680i board if you want SLi in the future.

Um. Youre playing WoW, not f.e.a.r.

If you're playing on a lower resolution (less than 1600x1200) then don't waste the extra on the 8800GTS 640MB. Get the 8800GTS 320MB version and it'll be the exact same performance, but $100 cheaper.
