E6600 temps out of whack, I am leaning towards OC till throttle.. what do ya say?

So I've been having temp problems for my e6600 that I cant really explain.
I'm nearly convinced its misreporting.

My stock heatsink ran at 70c on intel TAT
I bought a zalman 7700, and AS5. It got down to 60C.

I reseated the heatsink 12 or so times doing something different every time (bending the springs to get more pressure on the cpu, different amounts of paste, different kinds, cleaning VERY well) and come to the conclusion its not me seating it wrong.

It hasnt been lapped, but i shouldnt need to just to get under 60c.

I mean people have theirs OCed 3ghz running cooler than mine with their STOCK sink.

My ambient temps are 20c, case is 25-30c

My question is.. at what temperature will the CPU throttle? The most important question is do I need to turn it on?

Does Thermal Monitor 1 and 2 need to be on for the auto throttling to work?

I simply want to OC and thus heat up my chip till it throttles on its own. Because at this point.. my heatsink is cool to the touch, and the air in my case is cold.

Some numbers:
Stock HS TAT @ 2.4ghz; 70c
Zalman7700 TAT @ 2.4ghz; 60c
Zalman7700 TAT @ 3ghz; 70c

Basically its running as "hot" as it was on the stock HS @ stock speed.

So.. what do ya all think? I'm about to keep goin! =P

thats post #2s temps

Anyways my airflow is fine. My case is cold. Heatsink isnt warm. but yes it is seated properly.

I'm basically wondering when my cpu will throttle or whether it will just fry suddenly? Because i dont believe it my temps and i am going in rambo style.

now i'm at 3.4ghz and my temps are 75c. Thats 5 more than stock for me.

stock hs at 2.4ghz = 70. zalman at 3.4ghz = 75.

Anyways, i dont have the nuts to go on at the moment so i'll just go along.

Try Speedfan and Core Temp and see what kind of readings you get with those.

I use them both and they report within 2c of eachother.

I'm going to reinstall my OS and then get back on OCing this puppy. Just wish it wont die spectacularly.

It's not the OS. It shouldn't be a software problem either. Try to get someone else to mount it for you. You never know. We usually can't see our own mistakes.

Oh i mean i was doing the reinstall anyways. Thats a good call though.. although I really do wonder how many ways one can install a HS. And how many different amounts of AS one can put on the sink.

I will lap this puppy next time I run by a hardware store.

So i'm running at 3.6ghz now at like 57c idle LOL. I dont believe the temp meter.

I cant wait till this thing dies...
