My first budget build...

Hi!

I'm hoping to start this build ASAP when I get my next paycheck! ($400)

Anyway... It's AMD build of course. I was having hard time putting C2D in $800 dollars-ish build. I would need to buy monitor, mouse, and keyboard...

But here's my build... I already have Antec 900.

UPDATED 1.2 (changed my CPU and GPU)
UPDATED 1.3 (changed my M.B and PSU)
UPDATED 1.4 (changed my CPU cooling)

I am having very hard time considering what OS to get. I was thinking about starting with Linux, and hopefully when Vista are mature enough and I will get it later.

I was hoping to turn this in ultimate PC in long haul!

DH

P.S. Thanks for your time!

Here The E2160 is basically like an e4300 but with 1mb cache. It also oc's really high, usually to ~3.6Ghz. The X1950XT will play pretty much any game out there in high settings.

Nice build. Check your ram, you have DDR listed instead of DDR2.

You really dont need a 6000+

If you are an overclocker a 3600+ or any brisbane for that matter will suit you better.

I would like my computer to have DX10 so it can be future-proof. I was interested in buying Vista but I'll stick with Linux for awhile.

If you go AMD route, get a 3600+, they will oc pretty high with an adequate air cooling set-up. Also, if you get an AMD 3600+ and Biostar TForce 550 to replace the E2160 and Gigabyte in my sample build you'll save some money, enough to step-up the Video card to an 8800GTS 320MB! It would be a little bit over 800, but well worth it.
