Does ULTRA make good PSU's? - Page 6

Your PSU won't last long without fans. The X-Finity with two fans in from Wintech, so it's one of the crap units they sell.

I thought it was kind of funny when I looked back at my tigerdirect invoice and looked at the page and read this review:

I bought this power supply on 2/24/08 and not even 8 months of owning this PSU, both fans went out. As I write this today, my PSU blew last night. I am quite disappointed as I read the reviews and had high expectations.

So what, 70W in fans, HDDs and opticals, an OCed Pentium D and a 7600gt. That's hardly a stressful setup. You are looking at 250-300W peak load, at the most. Most bad 600W PSUs could handle that. If you have the EE model with the large single fan, it's at least a decent model from Andyson (it still isn't great though).

I've got an e8400 and an ud3p on the way. I've got 7 high performance fans, and 2x 12" cold cathodes, plus all the stuff in my sig rig. Am I gonna have a problem with my psu?

True, but the general public is also dumb.
Like a guy that goes out and buys a Kia because it's got the best warranty around and his friend said they last forever. Then 3 years later he's getting it towed to the junkyard because the warranty is null on his 'specific situation' and it's not worth fixing.

Most 'reviews' of things nowadays are done by people who don't know jack.

You have to look for the people who know what they are talking about.
Enter--> Johnny Guru. Extreme torture tester of PSUs, calls my PSU a Tier 2 PSU. And then someone reads a best buy review or buy.com review, and suddenly my PSU is a 'crap unit'.

People told me P5N-E board was 'crap board' when I bought it. I started a thread on it, and now that thread is over 800 pages. Beats the second most popular Intel Mobo thread by hundreds of pages. And that board is a sister-board of the P5N-E.

The OP asked 'Does ULTRA make good PSU's?'
The simple answer nowadays is yes, but they didn't used to.

Sorry if I seem to be venting - but I am sick of people making accusations before they know the whole truth.

If you have the X-Finity model with 2 80mm fans, it is not and never was on Tier 2 of his long since deleted list. He only recommended the Andyson built models (X-pro 600W and X-Finity EE). And to be honest, they didn't stand up too well in this review: http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/articl...hlbnRodXNpYXN0.

If it is made by Wintech, it will be crap. The end.

edit:

And guess what, the 600W model was never on the tier list: http://web.archive.org/web/200705230...read.php?t=103
