max volts for opty 165?

I need you to be as accurate as possible! my rig depends on it.. Im talking max survivable VOLTS AND TEMP!

There is no maximum survivable voltage and temp.

The only rule is:

Increasing voltage (above stock) and/or temperatures increases the rate of electron migration.

I'm pretty sure electron migration is when electrons have enough/too much (how you want to look at it) energy to jump out of the wire it's meant to be in, and create a tiny bit of havoc. This causes the processor to degrade over time as it happens over and over.

The highest I have gone for my opteron 165 was 1.55v, with max load for about 2 hours it was only to test how my new cpu cooler(now old) would do.

A rule of thumb: The lower the VCore that you can set for stability, the better.

The previous posters have hit the appropriate high notes already. Higher VCore puts out higher temperatures. If you do your overclocking methodically and you analyze your results properly, you'll find that your CPU will reach a point where it simply won't scale higher no matter how much voltage you send through it. This is called hitting the wall; you've reached the limit of your system's configuration.

Excess voltage over an extended period of time also accelerates the onset of electromigration. Suffice it to say that this is bad.

Hope this info helps!
