weird jittering in games

Thread Starter
ive noticed i have this jittering when im alt tabbing in games, basically when i alt tab into the game, or if a new map loads, and its usually either immediate or it comes up in couple of seconds, during the jittering, everything gets stuck and the sound repeats itself second by second, so if you have a drin in music, and it starts this jitter itll keep playing the drin, like drin drin drin drin for about 10 seconds, during this 10 seconds, the cpu light is on seems like its doing something. after the jitter finishes it works fine, however if i alt tab out, and then alt tab back in, itll start the jittering again , also if i print screen itll jitter, during first print screen it jitters, however after the jitter, the next print screen works fine, if i alt tab out and alt tab back in and print screen itll start the jitter on the first print screen, and on a new map load itll jitter. the thing is i didnt have this problem before, and it doesnt always happen, the only variable i can see is the temperature (its summer now) but the temps dont go above 51c, their around 51-52c on load, im not sure if its a cpu problem, its not really overclocked heavily, and when i was running it on stock i was having the same problem (mightve been less frequent) im not too sure

actually ive been reading the wrong temp

i was reading the temp1 (the first one), so its temp1 that goes to 51 , i dont even know what that is

BTW the light on the case is HDD use, not CPU, if it was cpu it would be on all the time . Ummm looking at your specs your proc will be alright for some games, i'm just worried about the RAM and GPU. Can you try to overclock your GPU any? or is it onboard? if it is onboard then don't hope for any gaming. BTW what game is it? lol I never figured out. Mabye if you have another 100 dollars lying around you could jump on neweggs deal 2 gigs of g.skill RAM for 100 bux, used to be 140.

hmm you didnt answer the question and went offtopic completely,my gpu is like 5 years old..i dont have onboard...the games are warrock, desert combat, zero hour, world in conflict, it doesnt matter it does it in everything, the question wasnt about ingame performance, but about the jittering, if i had 100 laying around i wouldnt spend it to get more ram rofl
post #5 of 10
It is your rig, to my understanding. That is why I suggested RAM, 1 gig doesn't cut it sometimes, believe me I know. Try turning off any programs you have running in the background, if you can, try changing whatever the TAB key does to another key to see if it is the game or another program in the background that uses the TAB key and when you press it, the program does something (makes the game skip because it uses more resources). Hey don't fuss at me, at least I know the brand of my GPU. The 9200SE is an ATi card, not Nvidia . ,http://ati.de/products/radeon9200/radeon9200/index.html. Nvidia is only up to 8800! 9200 is in the future. Good luck.

Jacob

EDIT: why wouldn't you spend 100 on RAM? 100 on GPU wouldn't hardly get you anywhere. I would wait until I could get a 8800 of some kind, I just have a 6800 because it was given to me, I want to put them in SLI soon.

EDIT: EDIT: After rereading your post, I saw only 2 periods. Work on that for me, no wonder I could barely understand what you are trying to ask, and I can still barely understand what you are asking. Hopefully someone else will jump in and help.

i know its ati lol, i was planning to get a 8xxx nvidia series, i never bothered updating it, it isnt the ram, it (as you said) the light being on, seems to be a variable of a temperature problem, i have only 26 processes running, my ram never goes over 800 usage, its around 700, it isnt the ram, unless the ram is overheating? it has to be something with temperature

Ohh sorry man, for coming down so hard on you, I thought you were a total noob lol for putting the nvidia symbol up. Ok, you have me stumped man, i'm sorry. How long has it been doing this? Ohh yeah, can you run FRAPS for me? and tell me how many FPS you are running in any one of your games? thanks

RSX, alt+tabbing and experiencing this "jitter" is normal. Even with my system if I'm playing insurgencymod, alt+tab out to check something real quick and alt+tab back in it'll lag (jitter) for about a second. I've always experienced this.

Sounds like to me your HD is holding you back on this one. What model 120GB samsung HD do you have? Try to get disk keeper and defrag that HD

Your temps are fine but you might want to invest in a aftermarket cooler with 1.44volts. Probably want to drop that idle temp to like 32-35C.

Good luck man
