Computer shut down.

Thread Starter
Hi, I have 3 computers on my network and i am having problems with 2 of them.

First one is a asus p5p800 P4 which started to shut down randomly and have problems starting back up again untill now it wont even stay on long enough to boot to windows or look at the bios.

Second is gigabyte ga-p35-dq6 C2D which has started to show signs of going the same way as the first. Random restarts and shut downs.

It all started about a week ago but the 3rd computer on my network has no problems at all.

It dosent make any sense for this to be happening. At first i thought it might be the PSU but surely it wouldnt be both at the same time ?

Only thing i can think of is the mains supply. Noise on the line something ? But why only 2 computers and why is one far, far worse than the other ?

Any help on this would be greatly appreiated thanks.

Sorry if i posted in the wrong section.

if they're plugged onto the same wire switch plugins/walls maybe too much power from one section?

it sounds like a power issue...try giving one a new PS or trading PS's betweeen two of them.

Are they on the same main circuit? No more than one computer should be on a standard home circuit...they aren't powerful enough!
(If you don't know where they are...try turning off the breakers to the rooms, see what turns off)

They are both on the same ring main.

Even when only one is running, it will still happen.

Perhaps the breaker needs replacing?

If may be the "cleanliness" of the line/leg...

I was thinking the same thing but just the other night, 2 were running fine and the P4 was still shuting down after 10-20 seconds ?

This is really pissing me off now.

Do you think a UPS would make any difference ?

Sorry... I really can't say with any conviction. Do you have any Electrician-friends? Perhaps they could take a look at the condition of the elecrtical system in the house.

I don't think that the breaker is bad, because it's purpose is boolean; it's either on or it is off... but I'm just guessin'

If I had the money I would give the UPS idea a shot. I use UPS units because the power in my house can be sketchy at times, an I enjoy the added peace of mind.
