Paradox, I'm pretty sure you owe me... $117.98

Got one in the mail due to your review and my happiness regarding my 2900XT

how high did u get your 8600 temps and clocks without voltmod and stock cooling? i believe you had the XFX 8600gt oced triple x edition.
This one was 43c idle and 62c loaded and it jumped to about 67c with the overclock. One game though.. lost planet... it heats this card up sooo fast! it hit 91c with that game.

And yeah, it was a XXX. It had a VF900-cu and a voltmod that's in my sig.

Okay, I know I've said that I don't always put a lot of weight in 3dmark, but I'm confused with the 3dmark06 score reported--It's lower than what I get with my sig rig at stock--is this due to poor driver support of the 2900 cards, or possibly CPU bottlenecking? I'm just curious, and am not at all ragging on the card--I think it's a great card (obviously better than my x1950pro of course)--kinda jealous. But any ideas as to the apparent low score?

EDIT--just noticed that this is a 2600 series card, not a 2900--but even so, why the seemingly poor performance for a new card? Surely it should beat a x1900pro?

Yeah, it's also $150 with crap drivers. Once the next CCC or the one after comes out, I'm sure it'll do a whole lot better. I got almost 40+fps gain with the 7.8 vs 7.7

Yeah, I'm very hopeful for ya with the right drivers--looks like a very promising card. I'm glad to see that while AMD/ATI isn't necessarily releasing cutting-edge tech (like trying to completely out do cards like the 8800 Ultra), they're releasing very decent, newer tech for very affordable prices. Now of course something like the 8800 Ultra would kill a 2600, but it's good to see affordable, good DX10 cards released--for the $100-$150 range, to compete with the 8600 cards. But why the 128-bit memory bus? All of the newer ATI cards are 256-bit. Seems like Nvidia did the same with their 8600's. Perhaps higher-bit memory bus's are not necessary for current/near-future graphics requirements?

i think its the they made theses cards to powerful for 256 like there would out shine top end products. a voltmoded 8600gt can get almost 7k in 3dmark06

lol!!!!!

my 8600GT at 830mhz core/2.2Ghz memory got

Quote:
3DMark Score5354 3DMarks
SM 2.0 Score2596 Marks
SM 3.0 Score2254 Marks
from 540mhz core / 1.4ghz memory

You think with that much of an overclock, there would be a gain worth noticing.
