3400+ OCing and Prime95 help

Thread Starter
Hi, im kinda new to overclocking CPU's. this is the 2nd one ive ever overclocked. the other one was a 3000+ 1.8GHz OCed stable at 2.1GHz. well i just got a 3400+ 2.2GHz and currently have it overclocked at 2.7GHz. its also staying VERY cool at 20-22c idle and 30-35c under load. my computer has not crashed yet and has been running fine for about 12 hours. however before i went to bed i started up a prime95 stress test. when i woke up, it stopped after 5 hours and 17 minuts with:
"FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4.
Hardware Failure Detected, consult stress.txt"

can anyone tell me what that means and if i need to change anything.

Thanks in advance!

It means you're not what most people would consider stable. Usually when people say "Stable", they mean that they passed Prime95 for 8, 12, or 24 hrs(depends on the person and what they want to use the computer for).

Just out of curiosity, did you run 2 instances of P95? or only 1. That is a dual core processor and I just wanted to make sure you were testing it correctly.

The best way to fix this is to up the Vcore another setting or two and try again.

holy hell those were fast responses lol.

dual core? im pretty sure its a single. at least thats what it said on new egg when i bought it. my system specs are:
CPU: AMD 3400+ OCed to 2.7GHz stock voltage
GPU: nVidia 6600 128MB (upgrading soon)
Motherboard: Chaintech VNF4 Ultra
HDD: samsung 160 gig, samsung 500 gig
Memory: i was gonna check my newegg account for it because i forget what brand it is because i got it over a year ago and all programs ive used always list my ram as "Unknown" but newegg is down right now (for me anyways). The timings i think are 7 5 2. two 512 sticks

the stress.txt file just tells me about how prime95 works and has some FAQs

hehe yea, we're pretty on the ball when it comes to helping people (usually)
And Duh. I should have realized it was a single core (I just don't think some times).

Anyway, More than likely, you're having 1 of 2 problems: Ram needs to be on a multiplier/needs more voltage-or- you need to give your CPU more voltage.

Did you try to OC each separate component (FSB, RAM, CPU) and find their maxes?

I'll edit this in a bit with a "How To"... brb.

[EDIT]

Ok, if you go here you'll see how to properly OC your system. Check out the first reply specifically.

well my last CPU (3000+) was overclocked by changing just 2 settings. they were the HT multiplier from 5X to 4X and the clock speed from 200mhz to 240mhz (wasnt stable at 250mhz lol) and nothing else changed and ran the prime95 test stable for 24hours. i just basically did the same thing with this CPU. changed the HT Multiplier from 5X to 4X and set the clock speed to 250mhz which crashed so i lowered it to 245mhz which hasent crashed but prime95 gave me an error

EDIT: you guys are talking about the FSB but everywhere i read, it says that when OCing an AMD, you dont have to bother with the FSB because the AMD chip has it built into the chip or something like that. also i found the ram i have its pqi TURBO 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)
