Just browse the forums here, there are tutorials for everything!
If you use your own server to host a website then you dont have to pay thoes monthly fee's to register the name or whatever right?

Well... no.

The registering a name usually costs money. However, that's really only for *.com addresses. My site addy is kneeki.STUFFHERE.net which is free if you go to dyndns.com and register with them. You get a few selections to pick from for the STUFFHERE area, but it must be there. If I wanted kneeki.com however. It would cost around $10/year.

The rest is free for me however. I have as much drive space as I want, can upgrade the server as I need. The only draw back however. Is that Comcast limits me to a 50k/up. So if too many people log on my music server at once, it can bog it down.

That server will not be very useful as a gameserver (won't work for a game like CS:S) and will be very slow to move large files.

HA! I am in the same boat!

I just got a BUNCH of poweredge 2450/2550/4600 servers here that are all p3.

I am going to take one home (2550-2x 1.2ghz, 1gb 5x 18gb) and hook it up to a scsi array and use that as a home server.

scrapping the rest.

Take it home and use as a file server, that way you can access all your stuff from anywhere with an internet connection.
