Yes, We've bumped up the Vdimm to 2.8volts, he is hitting 53C max so far so I told him he needs to get some artic silver 5 just like you said, hehe. We got him at 2500mhz so far and he ran OCCT 30 minutes no problems. Im hoping today we can get him up to 2700mhz but I have a feeling were going to start hitting walls pretty soon and will probably have to start bumping up the vcore voltage just a little and maybe lower the DRAM frequency to 266-300mhz.

You guys have been have great so far, and I really appreciate the help! I will keep everyone updated.

Once you start bumping the cpu volts watch your temps pretty close. Try to keep it under 55C like The Duke said.

Yeah I understand, hehe. My friend is "pretty stable" so far on 250 x 10 with vcore at 1.4. We tried to raise his vcore to 1.46 to give us more headroom but it is getting his temps up to 59C which is too high so I told him to try to drop it around 1.42 and start going up 5mhz more a time on FSB.

Add on: I would also like to not that with 500mhz hes only gained +5 average fps in half-life 2 bench program. I figured 500mhz would make more of a difference?

We have hit 2700MHZ baby!

Settings:

FSB: 270
Multi: 10x
vcore: 1.42volts
HT freq: 3x

DRAM Clock: 333mhz
vdimm: 2.8volts

He has ran 30minute OCCT test and his highest temp from 57C also he has played half life 2 on max settings and his lowest frame rates have gone up quite a bit. He says its a lot smoother now with 8x AS and 4x AA. I wish the temp wasn't so high so we could try to push for 3ghz, but I guess now were stuck at this until we get temp down. Time to do a 6 hour orthos test I suppose.

ok so my friend couldnt run prime95 for more than 9minutes without getting an error at 2700mhz so I told him to bump up the vcore to 1.44. After that he got an error at 45minutes. with 1.44volts he is running at 58C max though so I told him not to raise it up anymore and just to drop the FSB by 10mhz. Last time I talked to him he said he had ran prime95 for a while with no errors at 2600mhz but he didnt say how long exactly. Will keep updated like always.

Hmm, I wonder how far the FSB can be pushed on this board. I was thinking maybe 288FSB x 9 = 2600 would perform better than 260FSB x 10, but I am not sure if thats even possible? Perhaps if we dropped the DRAM frequency down from 333mhz to 300mhz or would 266mhz be a better divider? I'm still sort of confused on the CPU/RAM division stuff, but I've read that if its not 1:1 ratio the performance won't be as good.

edit: Nevermind I just read about the difference a higher fsb/lower multi makes is very little and adds more heat to the board from bumping up the voltage.

On A64s (including Opterons, of course), whatever performance losses there are from running a divider on your RAM clocks are very small.

When you think about it, even when it's running at a 1:1 ratio with the base HT ("FSB") clock, it's still running on a divider. 1/1 is a divisible fraction. Dividers in A64 parlance are your friends, in that when the overclock is limited by the RAM, you can choose to apply the divider to the RAM and give the HT clock (and therefore the CPU) more headroom to scale up.

Thanks. I know this chip can do more, but I suppose going from 2.0ghz to 2.6ghz isn't that bad.

Alright well he is stable in sp2004 for 4+hours now at 100% cpu load with highest temp being 55C.

Final OC: 2642Mhz




I think this is about as far as were going to push it for now because of the temps.

I would like to thank everyone for helping. You guys were a big help and now I think I know enough about overclocking to OC my own system when I build a new one by myself.
