My new rig in 2 - 3 weeks

Thread Starter
I will be buying the parts from a local computer store (I live in Canada) wish we had newegg.

Anyways here it is:

PSU
OCZ GameXStream 600 Watt Power Supply, Dual GPU, SLI

CPU
Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 Socket LGA775, 2.33 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB, 4MB L2 Cache, 65nm

Mobo
Asus P5K-C Socket 775 Intel P35 ICH9 Chipset Dual-Channel DDR2 1066/800/667Mhz & DDR3 1333/1066/800 eSATA/SATA 3.0Gb/s Firewire 12x USB 2.0

RAM
OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz Platinum XTC 2GB (2x1024MB) Dual Channel Kit

GPU
Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphic Card

OR?

Asus EAX1950PRO/HTDP/256M ATI Radeon X1950Pro Chipset (581MHz) 256MB GDDR3 (1.4GHz) PCI-Express Graphic Card HDCP Compliant Heatpipe Cooling

I like the cooling on the ASUS model. Also people tell me that Sapphire X1950's where crap and had many problems, should I stick to ASUS? Is it worth the extra ~25$

HD
Seagate Barracuda (ST3320620AS) 7200.10 320GB SATA NCQ 3.0Gb/s 16MB Cache

Optical
LG 52X CD-RW/16X DVD-ROM Combo Drive Black

Case
Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Ultimate Gamer Case

I will be building it myself within the next 2-3 weeks. Trying to keep the cost down to a minimum.

Anyhow if there are any issues you see with the rig please tell me, also if you have any recommendations or see things you would do differently then please inform me. I don't do any HARDCORE gaming, as you can see this is more aimed towards mainstream. However, i will be getting a newer video card this Christmas because I can't pass up Crysis. For now, the X1950 Pro will hold me off. Mainly i just like to play CSS, Sims 2 (don't laugh, lol) and some Battlefield.

Thanks for any help.

Oh and the total comes out to:

$970.22 CAD

Any ideas how to lower this

I know it's not the same case you linked but it's MUCH cheaper and you wanted to save money right? The case is still great for the price almost all tooless and a dust filters for the front intake fans. Plus it's lighter I think.

For the ram they haven't been updating it's price so NCIX have it much gigher than what you linked. But they will pricematch other sellers so you an have ai at the same price than what you linked. if you start a pricematch session.

Here is the NCIX link for the ram you chose: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...Z%20Technology
or you could chose the OCZ reaper for 109$ with the money you saved on the case:
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...y&promoid=1042

To start a Pricematch just add all your items to the cart, then at the shoping cart window before you press checkout Canada or US scroll to the bottom of the window and press the "Start Pricematch button" and enter the required informations. once it's done just check out and order. It take about 1 day to process the pricematch manually, if the price is accepted they will charge you the matched price and process the order. If the price is not matched you receive an e-mail telling you and they will NOT process the order if the price is not matched so don't worry.

Also NCIX charge you only the GST not the provincial tax if you live in certain province. I live in Quebec and they only charge the 6% GST not the PST. I know I am suppored to pay it but... meh screw that. If i was a buisness and I was audited that would be a problem but I am not ehhe.

If I select the reaper ram this is what the price look like: 920$ then on top of that you have 45$ saving in mail in rebates. The ram is better, the hard drive is bigger, you have a DVD writer instead and you might only pay only GST depending on where you live.

If you instead pricematch the ram you save another 30 ish $ and the mail-in rebate is 5$ more too. So lets say you price match the ram then you can get the E6750 instead and the price stay around 920$

Those prices are good only till the 31th then they might change tho.
