Help me improve airflow in P180

Thread Starter
I have a few questions about the fan placement in this case.

1. For the front intake, is it better to mount the fan closer to the outside of the case or use the HDD cage and mount it with the braces?

2. Would it help if I mounted 2 fans for intake parallel to each other. (one on the braces and one screwed in inside the HDD cage) I don't know how to explain this better but it's basically a front intake drawing cool air and another intake pushing it through the case.

3. Is the fan in the bottom chamber necessary? My wires are dangerously close to the blades!

4. I currently have my PSU upside down so the intake fan is facing up. Should I remove that black plastic plate to get more of a negative pressure?

5. Is it better to face the PSU right side up?

What I'm aiming for is great airflow but also moderately quiet. I plan to do this by replacing my current cpu fan with a 75+cfm Silenx fan and the front intake with the same or probably just a 46cfm Silenx fan I currently own. Why Silenx? Because that Scythe is loud when its in the front >< (I think it's around 30dB) Hopefully I can drop my CPU temp a few degrees. 65 load is not cool.

Sorry for asking a million questions...

Any criticism appreciated as well answers to my questions!

Wow your cables are crap managed. Ok they fan placement with the intake is great. What i would suggest is that you remove the top fan because it just makes useless noise "the blow whole" and does nothing for the case.

Route your cables through the back like that

That is from my build log check my sig. I hope that helps anymore questions I will be glad to answer

Ok, seems like my PSU is better facing the other way because some of my cables don't reach while the PSU is in that orientation.

From what I see in your pictures, you removed the bottom chamber fan ans just put some wires through the hole. Seems like a great idea to me!

I did a little search on the forum and found a few posts that mentioned creating a wind tunnel using 2 middle intake fans to cool VGA. I will probably do this but you must keep the HDD bracket on.

So things I'm going to do..

1. Buy Silenx 90cfm and replace Silenx 46cfm on CPU HSF
2. Move Silenx 46cfm to front intake
3. Move Antec 120mmx38mm tricool to middle HDD cage to create a "wind tunnel"
4. Flip PSU to face right side up and reroute cables (I know I did a bad job first time around )

Thanks for the nice pictures. +rep

Yeah put your psu the correct side up. I don't know what you have but if you have one exaust fan like i do on the outside of PSU

Or if you have a PSU with a 120mm on the inside of the case intaking air then either way like i said the PSU has enough ampel sucking power to keep the HDD's cool. A way to test this is to open up you front fan filter area and put a peace of toilet paper there and see if it is sucked and stays on the case and deosnt fall off. My antec PSU has a SILENT fan and it still has enough suction to keep the toilet paper stuck from that far away so it's all good.

Dude i have no idea what you mean by windtunnel but i don't think you need a 90cfm fan. You won't create a windtunnel you will create a tornado It's called SIlenX for a reason. Also I would not recommend SilenX fans

Pick up a pair of Nexus Fans If you wanna go silent. They will have ampel cooling power for what you need. They are great fans i hear.

check out my thread for cable management on the p180:
http://www.overclock.net/case-mods-g...ntec-p180.html

i have pics posted so you can see how did it all. i removed the bottom fan in front of the psu and placed a 92mm fan right in front of the hdd's in the bottom chamber. it will fit perfectly down there and you wont even have to zip tie it or strap it down. i was also thinking about putting 2 fans around the upper drive cage, one pulling cooler air in and the other to pushing into the case.
