8800GTS + Vista +S.T.A.L.K.E.R. =FAIL

Whenever I try to start a new game, load a saved game, or play online, it just sits at the loading screen. I have heard this is an nVidia driver issue, and there are plenty of people complaining about it on the nVidia forums, but I have yet to see a solution. Anyone know any work-arounds, or do I just have to wait for nVidia and THQ to work it out.

Have you patched S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to it's latest version? Have you tried different drivers? Be sure to use Driver Cleaner Pro when uninstalling and reinstalling new drivers. Have you tried turning off all of the eye-candy in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. settings? Is your overclock at least 10 hours ORTHOS STABLE?

That's all I can think of for now.

I upgraded to Vista in May, so I've tried every driver released since then, including the betas. Just recently I reformatted (because of a separate issue) and installed the current driver. As for the in game settings, I previously ran STALKER on this same computer under XP on high settings with no problems; under Vista, it won't even run in DX8 mode. I don't know if my computer is ORTHOS stable, but it is Oblivion stable for 12+ hours.
