4. When I FORMAT my SATA drive it will definately leave my IDE ( Vista ) Drive alone yes ? Last time I installed linux and specified that I wanted it to only install on the SATA drive for some reason it took the liberty of destroying windows....I wasnt best pleased.
I have never had a problem formating drives. What likely happened was that it wrote over the MBR of the Windows drive, or was set to use all diskspace. When you format drives you should be in either a graphical interface such as gparted, or something like cfdisk, at the least (on most distros). It has the drive name, /hda, /sda, etc., and partition size, and filesystem type. Like I said, I have never heard of it formating the wrong drive, so it was probably GRUB that wrote over the MBR of the first disk (so it boots to it.) If that was the case, you could have either put Windows as a choice on the GRUB list, or use fixmbr off your windows bootdisk.

Since you have two drives, though, you should just unplug the Vista drive when you go to install your Linux Distro. That way there is no possible way it can change the MBR on it. I usually don't use GRUB because I have Windows for gaming on one drive, and Linux for everyday and normal use on another drive. I just hit F11 during boot-up and it gives me a menu to choose which drive to boot from.

Luckily for me, my onboard Realtek '97 audio (IIRC) sounds better in Linux than in Windows So much better, actually.

Hopefully Creative gets some Linux X-Fi drivers out, or the community makes some decent ones soon. I don't know when it will happen, though.

When you need help, just ask. I don't browse the forums often, so a PM will get my attention (through e-mail).

yes there might be some development project in the kernel team, but when your looking at a Linux driver you better know what hardware you are looking for
