Q6600/Quad Core Questions: Ask them here. - Page 2

Just be aware that a Quad and MB does not always allow the same FSB as for a Dual... but it will be a nice challenege to take on and you save a few Bhat as well.

Yeah the cheapest that I can get the 3210 is 246$ shipped and the 3220 will be 299$ shipped. So I really should go for the 10 but you got me thinking and maybe I should get the 20. I think Ill have to play some games and maybe flip a coin later.

As you well know that extra Multi maybe just what you need ... but then again maybe not, such is the 'luck' of OC'ing

I was gonna say that as well. That extra multi does wonders for boards that can't leap as high as others, so to speak.

Well the thing is I am not copncerned with the fsb ability of this board. Its the cpu that I am concerned about. It would suck to get a fsb wall at say 400fsb with a 8 mutli where as atleast with the 9 you could go a little higher.

Guess I will think about it over night and see what happens. Thanks for the input guys.

edit: LOL wait this is audi's thread

Do you think a PA120.2 would be sufficient for cooling a OC'd Q6600 with a V8 Stinger, or would you recommend a PA120.3?

I am not familar with phase and water. The two people I would consider aficionados on those specific topics are Knitelife and AMD_Dave.

However, I do believe in top of the line air is equal to bottom of the line water, which means you should choose based on that ideal.

Again, AMD_Dave may be a better person to ask this question too or Knitelife (Phase).

These forums have been so helpful! For any new Q6600 owners (like me), I had trouble with the temperatures and getting something absurd like 65-70ºC idle and 80-85ºC load using the stock heatsink that came with the CPU.

I never messed with any of the voltage settings when I first set up my comp, so everything was at auto and default. Apparently my cpu voltage was set to 1.325 which, apparently, someone said was a bit high for using stock heatsinks.

So I took the advice and tried setting my cpu down to 1.200v and viola! My idle CPU temperature quickly dropped down to a steady 52ºC. That's more than an average of 10ºC cooler than before.

Though I don't know how setting the voltage down lower would affect performance-wise, at least my cpu is no longer close to meltdown.

Ignius-- 1.325v is not too high, honestly.

Also, you may want to check if your 1.2v is actually stable by running Orthos or Prime overnight. If that isn't stable, then you'll need to start adding voltages until you're stable.

Don't want to start crashing and have to come back n'ask "why am I crashing!?".
