New $1600 build on its way! - Page 2

Yep, I got the screws since I thought they would be useful to have, and it'll be a good place to put any other screws I have. Not to mention that the shipping charge basically disappeared since they combined the shipping with my other stuff.

I researched all the 22" screens, and the Samsung was the best (IMO). It's the only one that has a 2ms response, and thus had much less ghosting in the tests. It also looks freakin' awesome! The other Samsung isn't as good, and as for contrast, 700:1 is plenty. Besides, with DCR it has an effective 3000:1 contrast ratio.

(So basically, I just mean to say that I was well aware of the prices on all other 20" and 22" screens, and I made my choice. )

My 750W PSU was so expensive since PC Power & Cooling is reportedly one of the very top companies. Where did you get the Antec 900 for that price?
The Antec 900 price was actually a special Newegg deal, so that expired (it had a MIR...) but another good deal I saw at the time was from Circuit City. They'd ship it to the store for free and you could pick it up, I think it was $100.

Otherwise I guess all those choices are pretty understandable. Normally I'd be pro going with the name-brand expensive screen, but I've always liked Acer as a company so I guess that's why I'd be more inclined to get the cheaper one in this instance

As for the power supply, it's really to each his own. Some people go out there and find a power supply for $50 and complain when it dies less than a year later, while some go for the best of the best to make sure when we have hovercars in the year 4000 they can look at our technology in awe and wonder about how it still works (just playing)

Oh, and for cooling, I'm loving my Thermaltake V1. You might want to consider it

Anyway, enjoy your new rig!

EDIT: Here's the URL for the Circuit City deal, it says $120 now but I coulda sworn it was cheaper.. maybe I'm just delusional. Either way, not too shabby for a big retail store!

Nice build, I'm getting the same case for my build! I should've went with a DS3R, instead I got the DS2R mobo, it seemed pretty reasonable at the time for the build, nothing too extreme. LOL Good luck with the build and enjoy!

I agree with the posts about the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme; if you're going to spend over 50 bucks on an air cooler, it had best be that one plus a fan. Benchmarks may be criticized as not indicative of regular day-to-day system performance, but they don't lie, and benchmarks say get that heatsink!

One thing I don't get is the power supply; it's pretty overkill for that build, IMO. I know you want to keep one for a few years, but as multiple FAQs (at this website!) on the subject will show you, wattage in a power supply is not as important as amperage across its rails. You can even run 8800GTX SLI on a few choice 600W power supplies.

But it's your choice, in the end. Just my two cents.

Yeah, I know. It has 60A on the 12V rail.

Looking at the reviews, it's hella solid too.

PC Power & Cooling is overrated IMO. You could get a Silverstone OP750 that's just as good for $30 less.

How about for a better PSU? Silverstone > PC Power & Cooling in this case.
