10C drop.

Least you know it's case air flow now.

Progress!

but i mean...even with open air take its still at 40. If i put in a bunch on fans would that really get me down 20C?

And on another note...how can I add fan holes to my case...ect..

btw, could my motherboard probe program be reading my temps correctly?

in speedfan it recongize's "temp1 as" ~40C and "core"~25C yet in probe II CPU is 40C

Brisbanes do have the reputation for not reporting their temperatures accurately, as the Duke said.

However, your case is not (how to say without meaning to offend) the best when it comes to cooling. Stock it comes with two 80mm fans, yes? I took a look at pics of your case, and it looks like the rear fan mount can accept 92mm and 120mm fans. I'd recommend mounting a 120mm fan in the rear as well, and maybe flipping the top blowhole fan so it functions as an intake (I'm assuming, of course, that it's set up to exhaust hot air). I think the Zalman is simply starved of air; your experiment of taking the case side cover off clearly illustrates this. Introducing more air into the system will improve the temps more.

Don't be afraid to experiment and test various setups. It might be tedious, but discovery requires some work.

Hope this helps!

thanks guys, i'll get a 120 exaust flip the 80 exaust, and I'll see what it does to my temps.

At this point - is it safe to say that: If i just get better case cooling - I can disregard my weird temps? So, I don't have to be nervous when I start up a game... Only thing that worries me is - how can I get safe oc's when I'm not getting accurate temps?

If my cpu was truley idle'ing at around 45... would it be hot when I stick my finger right next to it? Because when I do that...it feels cool.

Oh, one more thing - is there any type of hardware I can use to monitor my temps... something that i stick right next to my cpu- to get 100% sure temps?

I'm pretty sure I put my as5 on right (i just put a dab in the center), and my fan controller is up at high.

What could be the problem?
You seated your heatsink wrong and probably didn't put enough paste. I'm idleing at 42C with my Zalman on Low. WITH A QUAD CORE.

Aye, that's the rub, no?

In the absence of accurate ways to measure temperatures, I'd suggest the following: If it runs stable without any temperature-related issues, it's most likely fine. If it doesn't lag or shutdown, I'd say you're golden.

Now, as far as not feeling any discernible warmth from your HSF, this may indicate a poor mount. Are you absolutely confident that your Zalman is mounted properly? Chances are your HSF is mounted correctly, but the system isn't generating a lot of heat.

Question: Perhaps you haven't done this (because of your concerns with the temp readings you're getting), but have you really cranked up the temperature on your system? Have you determined the max load temperature of it? If the HSF still doesn't feel warm (or hot) whilst this test is running, then for sure it's a bad mount.

More food for thought, eh?

Hope this helps.
