BF2142 is still crashing, any suggestions? - Page 2

I had a very similar problem...i just created a new Windows Login and installed bf2142 on that and it acutally fix it from crashing. Something has to be corrupted on my previous windows login.

Give it a try....sometimes the weirdest/stupidest things work.

DX10 is tied to Vista... regardless of 32 vs 64 bit. There are two versions of XP Pro 32-bit and 64-bit. XP Pro 64 driver support is not as good.

As for the OT, do you crash if set at stock?
Once again...

I don't understand why this game has been crashing so much on me because I have looked at the temperatures readings that I have been getting and it shows around 60-62 degrees celcius for the GPU and 43 degrees celcius for my processor under full load. These seem very normal and pretty good considering I use air cooling.

I have been thinking about what the possible problems could be and I can almost rule out that I need to reset and put more silver paste on my cooling for my GPU. It's been about 1/2 year since I have put this GPU cooler on and it worked great then and still works great now.

As far as other games and programs that I have been getting trouble from is Speed Fan 4.32 X64 edition when I start up the program after computer start-up (my computer freezes up and I have to do a hard reboot). Is this linked to my problem, probably not but I thought I would bring it up. Other games run great so this leads me to believe that the actual game doesn't like my X64 bit XP system or I am just having plain bad luck. Like I said in the title,"any suggestions?"

Would you please elaborate on the crash, is it a CTD or a freeze with a sound-loop or another type of crash?

If it's a hard freeze, uninstall ATI Tool and it should stop.

CTD's are an ongoing issue that EA hasn't fixed yet. Try typing these commands in the console (~ to open)
Code:
pb_sleep 500
pb_writecfg
This will delay how often Junkbuster checks things. Also frees up a lot of resources; PB is a nasty resource hog when it does its scans.

Yes, I crash if at stock settings which leads me to believe that a program is screwing up BF2142.

The crash will happen at a random time. When it happens my screen picture freezes in the game and the sound that was in the game just loops over and over. From the point of the crash I have to do a hard reboot since I can't Ctrl-Alt-Delete to get to the main windows screen. I have tried many different settings which none have seemed to help except if I turn off all my fan control programs. I tried this method and was able to play BF2142 for some time before I started to get artifacting @ 675/774 GPU speeds. As far as my CPU goes, it runs at a max temperature of 42 degrees celcius under heavy load for over 2-3 hours. If only there was a fan control program out there that was able to run all my fans without crashing BF2142...

Seems very much like a memory related issue.
Have you let it run to see if the freeze unlocks?
How do you have your PF set up?

Whoa..Artifacts, did you mention that before?

Do you have ATI Tool installed on your PC? If so, uninstall it. Trust me. Not a single freeze like you're talking about since I did that. RivaTuner is still installed and no problems there; but I only use it to maximize the fan speed on my GPU.

First off, what do you mean by "letting it run to see if the freeze unlocks?" Secondly, I have my power fan setup this way: two 80mm. fans in the front of my case, one 80mm. one the side of my case by my TT Big Typhoon exhaust port, a Artic Cooler on my 512MB 1900 CF edition GPU, a slot fan cooler below by 1900, a 120mm. fan blowing hot air out the back of my case. As far as artifacting goes, I shouldn't be getting this because my temperatures don't get above 62 degrees celcius with max load being put on my card....this is why I am so confused because this temperature is very good for this card under max load (I have heard of cards like this being able to run at temperatures of 75-90 degrees celcius no problem).
