That's interesting ... didn't even know they had released a CW version ... thanks for the tip. Gonna go read up on them ...

I just ordered one of these myself, but it hasn't gotten here yet. Until now I didn't realize how big 22" was! The small newegg pics don't do it justice at all! I'm gonna love this!!
The Samsung 226bw doesn't have a glossy finish - it's matte.

I heard that the cw version was the same as the bw version but just a guaranteed S panel. I'm not sure though.

CW has improved color capabilites ... which, considering the shots in my OP, it must be beautiful.

I'm stoked with the BW for at least another two or few years or more ...

I know, cause I've been reading OCN for the last few weeks. Folks are discussing Acer vs. Samsung and Samsung vs. HP and HP vs. Scepter ...

I mean, it's really sort of a train wreck.

That said, and since I just watched Spielberg's "Munich" on my own Samsung 226BW (an "S" panel, btw) ...

I thought I'd post some pics shot during the film, each taken while watching in my completely dark room.

Not to over-glorify or anything, but kudos belong where they belong ... I mean, this monitor simply PWNS!

Let the following images bear witness...

No backlight bleed, no washed out colors, totally sharp and respectable contrast for an LCD.

I mean ... c'mon ... regarding color, backlight bleed, saturation ... it just doesn't get much better than that.

A small disclaimer is in order, though ... this is a highly calibrated and tweaked scenario.

I have used both Samsung's Magic Tune software (see sig) as well as Nvidia's Pure Video settings to achieve the above represented output.

...

Pretty good for a budget LCD!

I have a 226BW, and I approve this message.

Take some shots in the dark mang!

It's amazing how little backlight there is once things are calibrated.

I use Nvidia's purevideo settings to get rid of all backlight then use MagicTune's contrast/brightness setting to pop out the lighting and shadows. The two work very well together.

This was my favorite from the OP:

Excellent color and saturation ....

Yum.

i wish it didn't have so much writing on the frame of the screen. all that junk on the top-right makes it look cheap.

you can't say "226BW FTW!" anymore, as far as i know it's near impossible to get your hands on an "S" panel.

i bought one recently, and there is no info whatsoever on the panel "nothing next to the 226BW on the back, and nothing in the 'secret menu'", so im assuming its a "C" panel.

while i do LOVE the picture and colors, there is awful backlight bleed all around the monitor edges. starting to irritate me a bit

It's a relative statement, of course ... should have qualified.

I was a lucky lotto winner in the whole panel train wreck thing.

Though I did randomly walk into best buy the other day and their display model was an "S" panel.

BTW ... in the above screenies, my contrast is at about 90% and brightness is at about 70% ... zero visible backlighting, 'cept in the right corner which you can only see if you go looking for it. The pictures will show this ...

I agree. It makes seem all cluttered, ruining the simplistic design they were going for (and pulled off, minus the writings)

EDIT woops, didn't realize it had been dead for half a month....................................bump!
