Calling Ultima Online Verterans

Well, Kingdom Reborn is out and I have to say that, once again, I am not impressed with EA's attempt to update the engine to one of my favorite isometric top-scrollers. Since it seems that they WILL stick with this 3D client this time around and eventually ditch the 2D client, I am asking all UO veterans to hold hands and talk about the good times. Go ahead and list your server character name, and year you started and then your favorite memories. Cheers!

I remember the time that I stumbed upon a player wedding in Trinsic(I think) and I promptly began stealing food off the table and striping down to my undies and standing next to the bride and groom being generalally obnoxious. I was sent to player jail for about 4 hours by a GM.

I was in the pre-alpha, then the beta...but I didn't subscribe until shortly before Reneaissance came out. I played on Atlantic for about 1.5 years, with a handful of chars:

Jarrod - My main, Grandmaster in various fighting skills
Maxwell - #2, Grandmaster Mage

My other three slots were mules...GM in mining and smithing, a GM potion guy, etc. I was getting bored at this time and was basically just trying to get all I could out of the game. I eventually quit shortly after GMing in animal training...and realizing that I only did it because it was the only "cool" thing I hadn't done yet, not because I really wanted to be training dragons.

You're out-of-your-mind friggin crazy. I could see some n00b arguing about WoW being better than UO, but Earth and Beyond? What's next...someone going to claim that World War II Online was better than UO?

It is defunct, it shut down in 2004. After launching in 2002. A two year run does not indicate a very good MMO, to me.

By contrast, UO was the first successful MMO (not the first, just the first to make a ton of money). And because it is still chugging along, it is also the longest running successful MMO (10 year anniversary is a couple months away). It must still be profitable, but I have to believe that only the real die hards haven't moved on to more modern games.

I have been on a UO break for 6+ months but started on Europa in 1998 and moved to Catskills once I left Germany...Been on Cats ever since...

Archerette, Twinkie, and Uber Mule being my Main chars...All nearly Legendaried out...MY wife now plays after b*tching for 8 yrs, and is going strong addicted and all for over a year now...

I used to have a Doom Gauntlet char that people absolutely hated named "Xx OwNaGe xX" but she has since retired...

I pop in from time to time to check it out but so many other games I'm playing now to stick to that one...I'll have to stop back and check out KR and see if it's worth keeping or not...

I played for hours last night. I've been easily distracted lately, so the fact that UO held me at my chair on a single game for that long is really impressive. Just hopped on my good old GM Swords/Anat/Stats/Healing toon Cool Ron and headed to Shame to kill dull copper ellies and earth ellies(gotta stock up the gems to sell to the provisioner, mucho monies), then I headed to T2A to lay the smack down on some titans with my Master Mage John Ashcroft and his pet Daemon. Ah, the memories.
