Duo's Short Lived? - Page 6

what about 64bit cpu's? I'm kinda surprised no1 brought this up. 64bit cpu's has been out for a while now, yet we still don't see that many software taking advantage of it. Lots of people bought amd 64 chips, but what are the majority of them running? xp vista 32bit? or are they running xp vista 64?

Making the claim of "4 cores are going to replace 2 cores in the future" is just plain ol' stupid. Making that claim is just as stupid as me saying in 2 years, cpu chips will be more powerful than todays chip. Thats just how technology evolves. We make technology better!

So ya, everything in the future is going to be faster... and ya probably like the op says, quad core will replace the dual cores. But by the time when every piece of software is written to take advantage of the 4 cores, it'll also be time to replace that ancient quad core.

Lol 64bit CPUs haven't done much at all. Only recently has a mainstream 64bit OS been released...

Quad Core is the future. Eventually. More multi threaded apps plz!

I hate waiting for winrar, hopefully this will cut down on extraction and compression times

Eh its pretty much like the 8800GTXs

When I ordered the system I have now, I was doing a complete overhaul mainly because I had an AGP system with a GeForce 6600GT.

I did NOT buy an 8800GTX for DirectX10 because I know it's a first-gen card so to speak. I simply bought it so I could run all DirectX9 applications at max settings.

I'm not expecting orgasmic performance when BioShock and Crysis comes out, I'll just have to upgrade components slowly but surely to get the best out of my system.

If I hadn't procrastinated so long in upgrading my system for 3-4 years I'd be in a better position than the one I'm in now

When I saw, and then clicked on "Duos short lived". I laughed, here is why...

All of us mostly have the latest technology in our computers because we are into building the best that our budget can allow us to build. If ANY of us give, or sell any one of our computers to someone that is an ignoramus when it comes to computers, the only thing they will ask is. "Can this computer get on "internet" so I can check the "E-Mail"? Basically, this site brings together people that have the same overall common interests of being a "computer enthusiasts" website. So, I guess I shouldn't laugh at the title because those rhetorical questions are supose to be here. I think it's funny someone making a statement about the c2d being out dated very soon because like someone mentioned earlier in a post that every 6 months something comes out better anyways. But we all know that on here.

So Mhill2029, I hate to break this to you, but all the parts in your rig sig are going to end up just like everyone else's; outdated in 6 months. So what is your point? Because I should just start a thread that says "2010; 22nm is coming out. Just don't update till then". But then in another 6 months from now they release plans for an even better chip. Then no one ever buys computer parts again because we are waiting for the best to come out. By then, 2-3 years go by and Intel and AMD goes out of business. I know that I'm exaggerating, but I'm trying to make a point that these posts are really dull and pointless.

Just my two cents

They've been out for about a year...and so far, nothing can beat them. X2's were out for about a year until the C2D's came out. I think the "Duos" are over due for a dethroning...

I think that right now it would not be a good idea to get a C2D or quad,Becuase intel is coming out with a new socket soon and we all now how intel is with there sockets just look at 478,If i where going to get a quad right now it would have to go with amd becuase i can keep all my current parts,Also in games single cores do great i can see that there are not many games that use dual cores or quads, and even the onces that do dont use they the dont use them very well.

You are a noob. I would like to see your source on the new Intel Socket comming "soon". The next intel chipset (X38 is still FC-PGA 775). If you say "soon" as near the end of 2008 or begining of 2009 then maybe I don;t know. The thing I know tho is that AMD will probably have changed 3x their socket since then...

Intel Socket 478
Then Socket 775 (and socket 771 for servers)

They stayed on socket 775 until these day the only difference is the old chipsets didn't have the capability to run todays high FSB's and the voltage regulation is not good enough for the new CPU's. But if there was a way to volt mod the old boards a Core 2 could be run on them albeit on a low (800Mhz top) FSB. Socket 775 work today with DDR3 memory controllers too.

Now lets see what AMD has been up to in the socket department during that time shall we?

Socket A
Socket 754 AND Socket 940 (Thx registered Ram requirement if you want dual channel on the socket 940)
Socket 939 (OOPS entusiasts didn't like socket 754 single channel or socket 940 registered ram requirement...)
Socket AM2 (OOPS the memory controller on the new chip support DDR2 only better change the socket! And stop completely making faster processor in socket 939 format that way user will upgrade to AM2!)
Socket F (oops our server CPU's need DDR2 too)
Oh my DDR3 what are we gonna do? AM3 of course! or was it AM2+ ? Hmmmm let's do both!!

So who change more often? AMD or Intel? All I know is my Nforce 680i board using socket 775 will support the Peryrn which is the next gen of Intel CPU and people with AM2 boards are still unsure if their precious board will support the Barcelona... Hows that for upgradability? =)
