2900XT 1gb or 8800GTX 769mb? - Page 2

For the cost of either big card, you can get a GTS and the PSU. It will definitely put you in a better position to upgrade to 9800/2950 generation while still kicking tail in Crysis.

I concur. The jump for you just isn't worth it right now. I think you should wait for the G92 or whatever. Also just to let you know the price diff. b/w a 1gb 2900 and an Ultra 8800GTX is about $12 here in Canada. So you might wanna think abt whether you wanna get the 8800 GTX at all.

I would wait a little bit until you see how the current cards handle the new upcoming games. If you need the extra power, just grab another GTS and a new PSU or just hold off till the next cards come out. You have enough power right now so I don't see why you need more.

i'm also wondering why you'd want to upgrade at all. while the 8800GTS is not perfect, it's still a really nice card. are there any games it doesn't play well, or do you just want to keep up with the Jones' in benchmark scores?

the 2900 will beat the GTX in *some* tests. considering the lower price, it is a strong competitor. however, saying the 2900 is better than a GTX is just wrong. the 2900 is a great card for the price, but nobody can claim it's better than an 8800GTX.

That was my thinking

What tests dished out these results?

none, as far as i know. ATi fans are a little antsy right now though. we've had the Top Performer honor for most of the past few years (X850XT, X1900XTX, X1950XTX), and none of us are particularly happy with the current state of affairs.

i've seen reviews where the 2900 beat an 8800GTX in SOME of the tests, but the 8800GTX is always the overall winner. the lower price of the 2900 and the fact that its impressive hardware stats lead us to believe that is still has unrealized potential make this a difficult decision. but if money is no object, an 8800GTX is the better card imo.
