I am going to switch over to Intel and give my kids the CPU\\mobo from my sig rig. I have it O.C.'d to 3 Ghz. I was just wondering what intel chip I should get. I will O.C. it but want a small performance increase over what I have without spending much. Any siggestions?

Whats your budget? The best one to get atm is the Q6600.

as little as possible

Basically I want the cheapest Intel chip that will O.C. to give a slight performance boost over my brisbane at 3

cheapest ATM is the e2120, which can easily OC to 2.6-3ghz..around 60-75$ too!

but will it outpace An AMD X2 Brisbane at 3Ghz?

A C2D @ 2.2ghz will be the same as your 3ghz brisbane. OC beyond that and your good to go. even the cheapest C2D will go above that 2.2 mark.

Overclocked probably....I wouldn't say it's worth the switch though. I would get something a little higher up. The Brisbane is a great little chip.

I think that 2.2 = 3 is a small exageration. 2.4-2.5 maybe. Are the core 2's REALLY that much faster?

All Core 2's are more efficient clock per clock than any K8 CPU. Even though the E2140 and E2160 only have 1MB L2 they'll outperform your old Brisbane provided you get it up to 2.6GHz.

I would suggest one of the new E6x50s, those have a 4MB of L2 cache and the 1333fsb which so far are overclocking better than the E6x00s and E6x20s.

The E6550: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115030

That should last a long time, two years at least.
