Nvidia flashing bios, oclocking 7600gt ko alt q

What does it do when you flash your graphics cards bios?

I am trying to overclock my 7600gt ko, what program is best to use for this, and how can i test it? Also, does the pencil shading the transistors really work? And can you instruct how to check if it does work?

Also.

I have a dell deminision 4700 series old piece of junk, and my PSU is only like 300w but I dont know what size of PSU it is anyone have any ideas?

What type of cpu cooler unit would fit on my cpu, since it has a green air directional flow thingy?

My ram is pc3200 ddr2 400mhz, my computer can take the pc4300 ddr2 currently my cache latency is 3, would i see any improvement for upgrading to the next type?

Yes I am new sorry if you can tell.

Rig:
P43.0ghz Prescott (wanting to overclock one day when i can find a cpu cooler and heastink to fit within the airduct.)
1.5gb ddr2 pc3200 400mhz
320gb sata1 hd seagate
evga geforce 7600gt ko card

Basically, a bios flash is the process of replacing your old video cards bios with a new (often edited with NiBiTor) in order to change the values of the cards default core and memory speeds, memory latencies/timings, # of pixel pipes, etc.

So is it easier to flash bios, or to use a pencil and shade in the resistors? can anyone answer my other questions?

use rivatuner to oc the gpu. it will also control fan speeds. atitool and nvidia's ntune also work, but rivatuner is better in my opinion.

First the video card. Pencil modding works by giving electrons an easier path (the graphite) to flow through than the resistor. (Look up "resistors in parallel for more information on resistance). In my opinion, the best video overclocking utility is ATItool, which can be used with both ATI and Nvidia cards. The success of the volt-mod can be tested with a multimiter, see the guide HERE about 7600 volt-modding.

The PSU.
What do you mean by "what size"? You know the wattage, what other information do you want?

Cooling.
Pictures of this 'green thing' would help, although I think I know what you are talking about. If it is what I think it is, it is removable. The Blue Orb is a good low-profile heatsink. Your options really depend on budget and available space.

RAM.
Upgrading RAM is always a good thing to do if it fits in your budget.

I hope this helps.

What is a multimeter?

I mean the deminsions, or like Micro-ATX, ATX, ATX12vault, mini-atx, etc. for the PSU they only tell the wattage and like BTUs.

As far as the green thing, it is a plastic material, that is hooked onto the case fan mounting plastic clip thing that is stock on a dell deminsion 4700. It basically looks like a rectangle that is cut off on one side, so that air can flow over the cpu heatsink, since it doesnt have it's own cooler?

So what cpu cooler can fit on with the air duct thing in place, or should i just take off the air duct?

On the side of ram note I mean would it be beneficial in terms of price to go to 4300pc with the same latency, or to go with pc3200 with latency 2 instead of 3, i mean for the money im a poor college student?

Also, how do you overclock a computer, like fsb, cpu, ram. What is easiest, and is my prescott 3.0ghz with HT a good or okay overclocker with just my stock case fan, or with a cooler?

Last question, sorry i ask so much but i am slowly becoming immersed into overclocking.

What types of gpu coolers will fit my card?

Thanks,
Crindle

A multimiter is a device that will measure AC and DC voltage, resistance, amperage, many can test bi-polar transistors, many have a continuity tester(put one probe on one component and nd the other probe on a different component, and it will beep if the two are electrically connected).

The PSU is most likely standard ATX 12volt, or ATX 12volt 20+4. The PSU itself is the same size, only ATX 20+4 has 4 more pins.

I would remove the green thing, or cut it with a dremel to fit.

RAM involves experimenting. There is a great thread in here about high speed vs. tight timings.

Most modern GPU heatsinks will fit all Nvidia boards from the 7600 and up.

Before going any further, I would like to point out that you will not be able to overclock your FSB, and subsequently not be able to overclock CPU or RAM. You can however overclock your graphics card using ATItool or Coolbits.
You can try flashing to the most recent BIOS on the manufacturer's (NOT Dell, but MSI, EVGA, ASUS, etc.) website.

Yes I was bummed when I read about the propietor's system and not being able to overclock.

Thanks for the information on the cpu cooler, and also the the PSU size.
What is a good PSU I am running a cheap idk*** u are dell psu at 300w, and my graphics card requires 400w minium.

Also, when you say flash your bios, are you talking about the nvidia bios from grpahics, or my mobo? My mobo is intel made.

Also, i put the coolbits hack registry string in as a dword, and was wondering why when I try and overclock I can't find a decent overclock, that will stay say if I go play a game, and exit it when returning to windows I black screen and have to restart. Please help me on overclocking my gpu, temperature is actually good since my 7600gt ko came with a cooler on it already been checking temperatures.

In nvidia display I have got core clock to around 770 when i test changes. What should i expect from each of these core clock and memory clock? Also I did the graphite on the transistors thingy and I think it worked some. The nivida tweaking is funky if you go +10mhz on the clock at a time you can go hell of far. but only by 10.

How do I use ATi properly to find my maxes, and also scan for artifacts and what not?

And do you think not having a strong enough PSU is limiting my GPU overclocking, or is that controlled by the Mobo if so I am screwed fuxing dell.

Is Hyperthreading a bunch of crap, or does it actually affect performance?

Thanks everyone and especially theflyingwallaby.
