The 500GB Seagate actually have the best price per GB, just so you know. SATA II and free shipping.

Thanks for the info Muhahahaha! What is the difference between SATA and SATA II? Bigger cables for a faster connection or something?

Wrong, there is zero real-world performance difference between SATA and IDE. SATA allows for higher spec bandwidth but no HD can achieve it.

IDE = 1.33GB/s
SATA I = 1.5GB/s
SATA II = 3.0 GB/s
Fastest SCSI HD = ~1.3GB/s
Fastest IDE/SATA HD = ~1GB/s

The cabling of SATA 1.5 and 3.0 are exactly the same.

Can I use SATA II with the GA-G33M-DS2R mobo? It has SATA connections, so does that mean I can use SATA II with it? Thanks DuckieHo!

If I were you I would go with two 320GB Seagates in RAID0. Fast with lots of storage. You can always get more later on

$80 each
currently, 500gb hdds has best price/GB ratio.

I wouldn't recommend getting any HDD with less than 320GB capacity. You will soon be out of storage. Unless, you don't mind connect 4~6 HDD to your system a year from today.

Don't mean to hijack. I have a 320 right now, and it's kickass. I'm thinking of ordering 2 more right now and putting 2 of them into RAID 0 and using the other for storage and backup .. Good idea? Or should I put the two in RAID 0+1 and use the other strictly for storage.

well what I was thinking of doing was getting those 2 320GB HDD setup for RAID 0 then if I needed more space get a huge external HDD so I can just transfer stuff to it and free up more space internally. Would that be a good idea?? Cause I really wanna stick with RAID 0, I mean unless there is some way you can have 4 HDD, pair them up and put them in RAID 0 seperately?? I'm just guessing, but I'm not sure that it works that way. LOL
