160 series drivers disable overclocking. help!

Thread Starter
i have an 8600 gt and a core 2 duo, 2 Gb of ram.

i am running windows xp at the moment, and i am using the 162.18 drivers.

i have tried atitool, ntune, riva tuner, to overclock, but the driver is stubborn and won't let me do it.

the older 101.24 (or close) drivers did let me overclock, but the performance of the new drivers at default clocks is as good as the overclocked old driver set.

i do not want to mess with the video bios, i want to do this from within windows. i tried installing cool bits using cool bits 2.0, then i searched the registry for cool bits and i didn't see anything. i wonder what it did...

still, i cannot overclock. something in the driver seems to disallow it.

in ntune, i can set a custom clock, click apply, but then it just jumps back to "factory shipped clock frequencies (no overclocking)"

atitool i can move the sliders around, but if i hit "set clock" it jumps back to default...

what do i do?

Strange, did you build the rig yourself or did you buy it pre-built? Some system builders may lock down the overclocking potential on all components, even the video card through a custom video bios.
