Asus P5KC?

I'm thinking about throwing in another 55 bucks from my original decision and getting this asus p5kc. Apparently it supports ddr2 and ddr3, which sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I just have one question, do you absolutely have to have ddr3 on this board to be able to put on a 1333mhz fsb processor? Or can you still have the processor without the ddr3?

http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1...94&modelmenu=1

Ok, apparently you have to have ddr2 1066 to be able to do fsb 1333. But can I just overclock my ddr2 800 or what? I'd like to be able to use the 1333mhz fsb with my ddr2 800.

you can do 1333 fsb with ddr667 if you want, remember that your fsb is quad pumped so at 1333 its actually at 333x4 and your ddr2 mem is rated at400x2 for ddr2 800.

Your ddr2 800 can actually handle up to a 1600 fsb before it starts to overclock if you run a 1:1 mem divider. However Im not sure that the 1:1 divider works properly on the p5kc for ddr2800 since Im only running ddr2 667.

So does it overclock pretty well? Like, do you think I could get my e4300 over 3.6 GHz or what?

E4300 have an FSB wall around the 400 and to get them at 3.6 GHZ, you will have to set the vcore well above 1.5 volts no matter what motherboard you pick.

well it overclocks ok I guess. my 2160 walls at 390fsb but I believe that the board is capable of much more. Mine does seem to have a rather large vdroop issue of 0.075v from bios setting under load(from what the monitor progs tell me, I havent actually physicaly measured it). But it seems that I might have a bad board as some people at xtreme systems say they dont have a vdroop issue. there are lots of options in the bois and the board has done pretty well with most settings on auto till around 75%oc

I was on the fence about this board and the gigabyte p35c. unless you need crossfire I would have a hard look at that board also

Well I have a pretty bad vdroop as well, and I have tried it with the dampner enabled...auto..and disabled..doesn't make a difference as far as the ASUS program says...but all different programs are saying a different voltage is going on...so I don't know what it really is lol. It's a good board but I am still having to run this P4 in it until I get the E6550 for it, and it doesn't OC this P4 as well as my old Abit AA8XE Fatal1ty did...

hi im new to the forum
i just bought myself a new computer and i was wondering how to overclock it, i read about the ddr 2 and ddr3 and im a bit confused, do i need to have ddr2 to overclock?
i got
ausu p5kc
Intel Q6700 G0 1066MHz
Patriot DDR3 2Gb 1866MHz,CL8,(Kit-of-2) Latency (8-8-8-24)
XFX GF GTX-260, 896MB/DDR3, 1998/575MHz

now my issue is that in the bios it seems that i can not set the fsb nor multiplier, how come? i updated the bios to the new version

cheers

oh and i have the Asus Silent Square EVO cooler and if i just use the computer to surf a bit with 0-5% cpu usage the cpu itself only gets 26C° but the cores are at 50C° is speedfan missreading something or is that normal?

thanks again

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Pleas no, i just bought p5q-e because i couldn't get my quad higher than 3.1.
It vdroop was 0.09V ;I

If i set it too 1.4 in bios it would vdroop to 1.22V, average vdroop was as mentioned before 0.09V.

I will never ever again bought motherboard with 4 phase powering.

anyone?

Hey guys, an old post here I know but rather than make a fresh thread I searched for this..

I have:
Asus P5kc board
Q6600 2.4
Geil Black Dragon 1066 4gb Ram
Latest BIOS 1203

I've been through the problems with Asus and 1066 RAM thought I got the solution but it seem that I can get the RAM to 1064 and it works well for about 30 mins then my system freezes.. had to under-clock it to 800 again

What I'm after are some things to try to get it running at it's intended speed and stable.. be it overclocking my CPU or what ever.. to be fair I wouldn't mind overclocking my processor to something like 2.8ghz or 3.2ghz.. I only have a stock cooler at the moment so wouldn't like to push it any further

I've never properly overclocked anything before but I know the in's and out's of PC's (techie for 10 yrs) just never ventured in to the modding side of thing much..

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys If you need some more info on my board let me know what you want and I'll post it.

Thanks in advance

-Ash
