Install of windows xp stalls on new hard drive

Thread Starter
System specs
ECS Elite group km400-m2 motherboard
AMD Anthon xp1800
Old - hard drive western digital 120 gb
New - hard drive Seagate ultra ATA 160 gb
phoenix award bios v6.00pg

I'm replacing my crashed western digital 120 gb ide hard drive with a new seagate 160 gb ultra ADA hard drive, however windows xp install stops.
I boot to the cd and setup loads the needed files, then it says "setup is starting window" to install, but it stalls out there. I tried 2 different windows xp cds and also swapped out the cdrom player. No luck, the install always stops at the same point. I checked the cmos to make sure it recognizes the new larger hard drive and it see both the make, model and correct size. So I'm guessing this motherboard and bios are ok with the new hard drive. Out of ideas to check, something will not let the install begin. Any suggestions???
I appreciate any help, thanks, bobhri

Hi bob, welcome to OCN, but as the this forum states questions should be asked in the corresponding forum...if you go to the home page and scroll down there's every kind of forum you need from AMD systems to Intel systems and much more. Just a heads up though! I'm new here too
Keep checking the forums though, users respond very quickly and alot of them know their stuff, if someone helps you out make sure to rep them! Later!

Well there is no way I could get to control panel since there is no OS on the new hard drive, old hd crashed so can't slave the new one either. However I did hook the new hd up to my laptop as an external thru usb. I was able to format and run disk checker. So that seems ok. Still when I put the new hd back in it's computer the windows xp stops at the same point.

mrbungle, sorry just trying to answer the questions asked to be polite and appreciate the help. I will move to new thread.

Noobdown, I'm not sure about the mobo. There is no green light on the board which lights up when mobo is fried. also no leaky or bulging capacitors.

Try clearing CMOS. Have you OC'd this rig? OS installs are picky when it comes to OC's and most people recommend setting everything back to default or auto before attempting it.
