Xbox360 with a HDTV or LCD?

Thread Starter
I'm just wondering if theres any difference, kind of like I know some people that use HDTVs as monitors for their computer systems.

I was thinking of getting an Xbox360 after the price cuts and I'm wondering if theres any difference between a HDTV or an LCD simply because I dont own a HDTV and have no intentions of doing so, primarily because I watch all my DVDs and whatnot on my sexy samsung monitor.

So is there of any quality difference between LCDs and HDTVs? If so what are they?

Quality is a question of make/model/revision.

The places you will see an obvious quality shift between "Computer" LCD's and HDTV's would be when you slide into the high-quality bracket Samsung, Sony, Sharp/Aquos monitors. At that point, you definitely see better quality out of a glass screen HDTV over an LCD.

If cost is your concern, for your purposes, an HDTV will not add benefit to your methods-- outside of sheer size-to-size comparison-- over your Samsung LCD.

LCD can get higher resolutions most of the time unless you get the latest and greatest 1080p HD TV's.

Yeah, you can get 720p on any monitor above 19" WS I believe, and 1080p comes in around 24" WS, all you need is a VGA port and the VGA adapter for your 360, and BAM HD gaming.

There's a difference between PC-LCD and HDTV...being that HDTV's generally have built-in options that a PC-LCD does not. And, different panels altogether.

So if I just get one would I be good to go if I just hook it up to my 226BW Syncmaster and my Kenwood speaker system from my old TV?

Yes. There's no need to invest in a larger screen if you aren't prepare for it or have any specific reason to.

I have a friend that games on his 22" Westinghouse LCD no problem, all day.

Although... playing on a 42" Screen is fun. It oft makes me sick after a few hours.

Yes, all you will need to do is buy the 360 and the VGA adapter (about $40), I assume that your speakers will take a RCA (red and white) inputs, because if not you will need an adapter for that also.

Well..... The 360 looks 20x better on my $4000 HDTV than on my $750 LCD monitor.

Both of them are pretty much the best you can buy, unless you went for a 2560x1600 monitor.

Its going to look better on a HDTV.
