Ok my brother might be building a AM2 system soon. He has decided to totallly skip 939 and go straight to AM2. So he needs a cheap as possible and best AM2 available....he is going from a Athlon 2000+, 1gb PC133, ATI 9700Pro. So anything is going to be an improvement... He needs the following:

Mobo
CPU
GFX (DX10 prefered)
RAM
SATA HDD

I would go with an 8600GT instead of the x1950pro. I've owned both.

Also, Bioshock comes out in a couple weeks and is supposed to use DX10 to accelerate the water effects.
im sorry but i dont see the point in getting an 8600 just cause of dx10...do you see how dx10 games tax systems with a gtx and 2900xt?? call of juarez gets around 25 fps, ive seen it on firingsquad, lost planet is 50 if your lucky!

i would much rather get a stronger dx9 card because dx9 isnt going anywhere for awhile! why? because the main market is still in xp! game companies make games to make money, they arent going to do just vista games ( microsoft lol) and expect to turn a good profit!

What ever MB and memory you get check compatibility.
The memory that The Duke posted is great memory and price but it's 2.2v and the MB I posted will only do 2.1v on the memory voltage setting.
