Some PHP help D:

post #1 of 9
Thread Starter
I'm sure it's 100% simple, but I can't figure it out. I know enough to get my feet wet in PHP, but not much. Can't figure out how to do this. >.>;

OK;

Currently, the only way to edit files on my site is to download through FTP if they aren't on my HDD already, edit them, and reupload it. It's inefficent for things like news entries and when fixing spelling errors and such, so I'd like to be able to log into an "admin" account (password protected), and be able to edit files, such as news entries, FAQs, and so on. To add to being able to edit them, I'd like to be able to upload them as well, but like I said, I have no idea where to start or to go after that. I'm stumped.

Help? I'd rather not use MySQL any; not because I can, but because I have little access of it. I have to ask others to upload it for me, so I like to do it as little as possible. :|

Help? >_<

There are two paths you can take here depending on what you want to use it for.

For news you could write a simple news script. However it seems to me that you are using what I call "hard coded" pages - no dynamic scripting that will allow you to do such a thing.

You could also install a File Manager script onto your hosting. This would allow you to have access to the files just as if you were browsing them on your computer - but via a webpage. The one I recommend is called IPFM - http://rebelinblue.com/?fm - if this isn't what you are after then please reiterate

(as an FYI - all webmasters face the same issues as you are right now. Uploading, downloading, uploading, downloading. There are many methods of consolidating it but they are a bit too in depth to go into discussion right now)

The problem really isn't downloading/uploading/ then editing/uploading, really -- thought it is annoying. Biggest problem is I'm running the site with someone else, with one FTP account (host only allows one), and he's left waiting for me to come online to upload his pages and news and the like.

I kinda worded my situation weird in my first post. :\\

Perhaps a file manager would be the best solution then. Give IPFM a whirl - it's a bit different but might help your situation.

@skenmy

I started installing...and it seems it requires MySQL -- not really a problem, but is there one that doesn't require it?

Looks good, but like I mentioned above, I don't have direct access to MySQL (which sucks, but it's my only way to do it) and have to ask other people to upload them for me.
