My QX6850 runs crazy HOT stock

Thread Starter
Hello,
I got my QX6850 couple days ago, and the temperature won't go down. I tried to reset the Zalman CPU cooler 4 times today, but with no luck. I don't know if i have a defective CPU or this is normal. I just ordered the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme CPU Cooler with Thermaltake A1927 120mm Red LED Case Fan. Hopefully it will fix the problem.

Anyone has the same CPU ?

CPU @ IDEL

CPU @ LOAD with ORTHES

CPU @ LOAD with TAT

Idle, Ambient 26C, Zalman on High

Load, Ambient 26C, Zalman on High

By the way, my brother's Pentium-D 920 idles at 50C with a Big Typhoon and my friend's AMD Athlon64 X2 4000+ idles at 55C with stock cooling.

You're load is very high, though. I would recommend better case cooling and maybe a heatsink reseat.

Hey GTT!! Why dont you open your case and try to reseat the HSF with some AS5!
Or maybe your HSF is not flat... in that case you can lap it, and you will have a good decrease on Temp...
Have you checked your vcore also?

Ambient = Air Temperature.

For example, 75F air temperatures is about 24C.

Thus, an Ambient of 24C and a CPU temp of 30C is good (only a 6C rise).

But an ambient of 10C and a CPU temp of 40C is not good (a 30C rise over air temp).

My CPU temp changes by about 3C depending on the time of day (early morning = 65F, noon = 85F, night = 70F).

Zalman = Flat base. Antec 900 = Good cooling. Zalman Grease = 2-3C of AS5, so that wouldn't cause the load temp being 20C above what it should be!

Thanks for the sig!

On topic: Maybe you're vCore is too high or something, set it to 1.24 or 1.25, that's stock. (I know 1.246v is stock for me, but, stock for a Q6600 is 2.4GHz not 3.0GHz.)

Go into your BIOS, Advanced Options, check your CPU Voltage (vCore) make sure it's set to "STOCK" or "AUTO".

The only solution: Turn on the AC and go H2O Cooling. I'm sorry to tell you.
