need some help with RAM and FSB speed!!!!

Thread Starter
hi all
i want to buy a 2X1 GB DDR2 memory kit for e6600 having 1066fsb(or 266MHz).i want to run dual channel mode .
should i take PC2-6400 at 800Mhz or a kit at 667Mhz.
with 1:1 fsb to dram ratio only 533MHz RAM speed is obtained.
incerasing it to 2:3 will give me full 8ooMHz but will it increase overall performance as now 1:1 ratio is gone.
i m new here and any help will be appreciated.
thanx in advance

Any of those will work. Personally Linked -> Sync Mode (1:1) with low timmings and 1T CMDbench faster for me than running the memory at a different ratio even when set at faster Mhz with slacker timmings and 2T command rate.

Get the 800Mhz ram since the price difference between this and 533/667 ram would be negligible and it will help you if you overclock. 1600Fsb with the ram at 1:1 is PC6400 and is easy to reach.

so u want to say that if i m not overclocking and just running ram at 800MHz by increasing the FSB to DRAM ratio ,it would give no performance gain.
With 1:1 , it will running at 533MHz.
Is there any way i can compare 533MHz at1:1 with 800MHz 2:3 in a 1066 FSB ?
i will buy PC@-6400 only but can a comparison be made between above two which can tell the better running mode.

Hmm yeah just run benchmark at those 2 settings, the difference will be negligible. At 533 Memory speed you can most likely run 3-3-3 and 1T and in most case 4-4-4 (or 5-5-5 if using value ram) at 800Mhz.

All I know is my scores are better at 850 4-4-4 1T memory than when I overclock my ram to 1150ish 5-5-5 2T when using the same 425Mhz/1700 rated FSB.

My advice is just stay keep your system at a 1:1 Ratio that way you will have minimal bottle necking as far as CPU/RAM goes.
