The answer is: It is both.

Check the feature set of both. They're identical.

CPU-Z identifies Denmarks as Toledos because that's what's encoded into the chip. Denmark is only nominally "different" from a Toledo to distinguish a dual-core S939 Opteron from a dual-core S939 Athlon 64 X2.

(In other words, it's a marketing ploy more than anything else.)

Denmark = Toledo.

i thought so too but other people are telling me that toledo uses less voltage than denmark thus toledo OCs better..

Not true.

VCore differences are usually directly related to the quality of the IMC. Chips from weaker IMCs (i.e., from stepping batches that produced poorer overclocks) usually need more juice than chips with great IMCs.

At stock settings, the VCore is 1.35V. When you overclock, though, everything changes, and no more generalizations can be made.

I have an Opteron 165, I've always thought they named it Denmark just as a marketing scheme. couldn't sell the Opteron chip under the Athlon64X2 codes, it would lead people to believe that they took the Opterons off the FX assembly line, which we all figured out is the case anyways. I figured it was a Toledo Chip with a nickname, just my thoughts. not claiming to be right or wrong, just what I thought.

again. people at other forums are saying that there was an earlier release of the opteron 165 where the tdp was over 100watt...

can anyone confirm the comparison with some kind of source?

Chips are always evolving (or sometimes, devolving). Often, newer batches incorporate slightly better optimized designs of certain details. For K8s, these improvements are often in the IMCs.

Stepping information not only tells you the batch date of your CPU (when it was manufactured approximately), but also the version of the IMC that's in the chip. Steppings (that is, IMCs) being what they are, they usually exhibit trends in behavior.

For example, the CCBBEs became legendary for being excellent at scaling to the 3.0GHz mark, albeit with a moderate VCore bump (1.4-1.5V); the CCBWEs, on the other hand, are largely regarded as being dogs, requiring massive amounts of VCore to exceed 2.5GHz (in excess of 1.55V, and only with a radical cooling solution applied). Then there are more recent gems, the LCB9Es, which can run to almost 2.9GHz with stock voltage (I have two that can hit 2.8GHz at less than stock VCore - 1.3V, in fact) and with absolute, tested stability.

I'm almost absolutely sure that the earlier runs of X2s and dual-core Opterons did require more VCore to get to the same speed (or even less) than the latest chips. I know that the chips I've had my hands on have behaved this way.

Hope this info helps!
