would this work as a server? - Page 2

I have a comp running windows server 2003 and its pretty easy to manage from a cold boot I don't need to have a monitor or a keyboard to manage the server. I just connect it remotely from my main computer and use it. Its a
Sempron 2400+ socket A,
gigabyte ga-7n400 motherboard
20gb(250gb coming in mail sometime this week)
2x512 corsair xms(I had these before I changed it to g.skills)
9600pro agp!

I have no clue what to use it for besides file storage. There is no way I can host a gaming server, because of my 512k upload.

haha i don't think anyone would buy it, and if anyone actually wanted to give me money for it i would feel bad for taking their money and giving them such a crappy computer haha.

also, i do want to keep it to play around with.

You would be surprised at the amount of companies still using P2 and P3 machines as thier servers, If it aint broke or needs upgrading why change?
They just need good through put from the HDD`s to the Network card.
You dont need anything more than onboard video, audio? no point as the onboard beeper is all you need to tell you when somethings not right...

Yep true that. My file server in the garage is just a opteron 144, 256ram, 40gb and win2k. Stan anything works for a server just really depends on what your "serving" . I mean if you had a giant sqldb with 50 users constantly accessing it and making changes to tables, you might want something more powerful like a dell poweredge 2950. But if your just using it for files that setup will work just fine.
