Crappy speakers? You're hard of hearing? Crappy bit rate on your ripped audio?

Those are my only ideas.

What do you use for output? Headphones or speakers? When I went from on board to the Audigy 2 ZS, I noticed a huge difference in quality and directional audio, especially in games like CS:S. I use headphones myself and notice music was much better quality as compared to the on board. Did you use the driver from Creatives site?

MM not sure if this PVS are crappy speakers because these are more than 18 yrs old but IMO sound good. No, I can hear perfectly fine. Bit rate is 192 so I don't think thats the problem.

I use speakers but soon will have some good headphones to test it and yes I got the drivers off creative site. What kind of difference did you notice in audio?

Clearer highs, and deeper bass on the same headphones. I could also hear people coming from a lot farther away in CS:S.

Old speakers can still be good... but... what speakers exactly? Even if you hear perfectly fine, can you hear well? (i.e. not tone deaf) Throw a CD in and listen as opposed to some lossy file.
Once again...

Well, I went for a full check up less than a year ago and according to the doctor my hearing is excellent. Wow it was hard to find a cd in this house after my cd book was stolen. Does it matter if the cd is played in winamp or wmp?

Again... being able to hear is one thing while being able to notice the subtle nuances of music is another thing.
